TITLE: Marketing Internship PAY STATUS: Non-Exempt DIVISION: Marketing RESPONSIBILITY OF: Department Head OF POSITIONS: Two DATE: December 2023 POSITION LOCATION: Sonoma Raceway – Sonoma, CA Sonoma Raceway is the heart of Speedway Motorsports’ nationwide network of entertainment venues.
The company maintains a consistent focus on four core principles: Take care of teammates Be known for remarkable events Positively impact the community Profitably improve ABOUT THE ROLE: The Sonoma Raceway Marketing + Events Internship is a paid promotional internship position in the Marketing and Events department that will provide hands-on grassroots marketing and major event efforts.
The Marketing + Events team is responsible for grassroots marketing promoting the raceway that involves the implementation and execution of promotional events at various races, fairs and festivals, community events, and activities in Sonoma County and the surrounding area.
Activities include interacting with customers and prospects, generating consumer leads, and representing Sonoma Raceway.
During major events, the Marketing and Events team is responsible for fan experience elements including driver appearances, fan activations, kids club, pre/post-race ceremonies, VIP guest hosts, and other event-related duties.
In addition to the essential duties and responsibilities of this specific role, all Sonoma Raceway interns will be required to submit a group project and presentation for Speedway Children’s Charity in the culmination of the program.

RESPONSIBILITIES: Manage displays and collateral at all events (including set-up and tear-down) Engage fans at events Build database by getting fans to sign up for giveaways Document and prepare a detailed report of each event including estimated number of attendees, amount and type of collateral distributed, etc.
Team members will submit a final review which will include an overview of each event, the success of each event, and suggested changes to make the program more successful and provide ideas, contacts, suggestions on program improvement Become an educated brand ambassador by developing and maintaining knowledge of Sonoma Raceway and various key racing personalities Be the outgoing personality that captivates an audience Approach strangers and interact in a natural conversation Identify future events to participate in while speaking with fans Assist in the general marketing efforts of the Raceway Other duties as assigned MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Superior verbal/written communication skills Excellent organizational skills and a strong attention to detail Ability to work independently as well as in team environments The position requires ability to work nights and weekends Position may require occasional travel through Speedway Motorsports workshare program to other facilities to support other events Currently enrolled or recently graduated from a four-year College/University or post-graduate program.
Passionate about sports, motorsports, and/or event operations.
High integrity and confidentiality, be able to approach strangers and interact in a natural conversation.
Result-oriented and creative in program development; innovative thinker and self-starter with the ability to self-manage once assigned tasks and responsibilities.
Possess strong interpersonal, communication, analytical, written, and verbal skills and able to take initiative to reach out to other staff members for information and details regarding assigned projects.
Desire to learn new skills and be a strong member of the team.
Must be polite, and courteous, and treat all consumers respectfully regardless of the situation while treating the company assets with care at all times.
PAY RATE: $15.
