The KQED Food & Check, Please! Bay Area engagement intern is a fundamental role within KQED's growing food team, providing insight, research, and action to our audience engagement activities, including social media communications, community interaction, influencer outreach, event planning, and more.
The engagement intern is a core member of the engagement team, offering ideas and creativity to a small but nimble crew.
The intern will help with the promotion and outreach of Check, Please! Bay Area across both broadcast and digital properties and with pre- and post-production efforts, as needed.

This role will require working from KQED's newly renovated headquarters.

Essential Functions:
Organize and manage audience communications and engagement activities with Audience Engagement Producer
Contribute to research, including gathering information around chefs, guests, restaurants, organizations, and media companies
Produce social media toolkits in collaboration with the Engagement Producer, including the creation of social media sharelines and graphics
Attend weekly editorial and engagement team meetings
Support management of KQED Food's social media accounts (as aligned with set strategy) to engage with audience and reach digital goals
Pitch and lead a digital engagement project centered around your interests!
Review raw footage from location shoots and drone footage, identifying best shots for promos and social media
Assist producers on location shoots on show taping days, including behind-the-scenes photography support (where appropriate)
Assist with copy prep and proofreading for Check, Please! Bay Area marketing efforts
Assist Audience Engagement Producer in creating original digital content (memes, GIFs, vertical video, imagery, graphics) for social media (as assigned)
Knowledge/Experience Required:

A genuine passion for food and drink, as well as a working knowledge of the Bay Area culinary scene
Agility in using digital tools like Google Drive (Google Sheets, Google Docs, Google Slides) as well as social media and digital video publishing platforms
Strong online research skills, with accuracy and attention to detail
Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to work independently, learn quickly, and balance multiple assignments
Excellent oral, written, and online communication skills with a high comfort level for making new connections
Strong cultural competence and sensitivity in communicating with and about diverse communities
Eagerness to learn and engage with diverse communities
