JOB TITLE: Business Development/Marketing Manager DEPARTMENT: Marketing REPORTS TO: Senior Business Development/Marketing Manager FLSA CLASSIFICATION: Exempt JOB SUMMARY The Business Development/Marketing Manager will be responsible for the business development and marketing efforts for the Firm’s San Francisco office, the nationwide Sports practice, and the West Coast Real Estate practice and, others as assigned.
By leveraging market data and competitive insights to identify business growth opportunities, the Business Development/Marketing Manager is responsible for drafting and implementing comprehensive marketing strategies that boost the San Francisco office’s brand awareness and enhance client engagement.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES* The Business Development/Marketing Manager will report to the Senior Business Development/Marketing Manager.
The successful candidate will support our attorneys with all aspects of the firm’s and individual lawyers marketing efforts, including: Proactive Marketing & Strategy – Create, develop, and present new marketing and business development initiatives and opportunities.
Business Development – Prepare standard and custom pitch materials; draft responses to RFPs and other intricate proposals; and assist with the development of business development presentations.
Legal Directories & Survey Submissions – Lead the compilation of annual submissions to legal directories, award and ranking submissions, and other PR submissions and surveys including Chambers and Legal500, among others.
Memberships, Sponsorships, and Conferences – Track and research potential conferences and other thought leadership opportunities to help cross-sell the firm’s numerous practices and industries, and promote the firm’s brand in key markets.
Negotiate sponsorship agreements and help coordinate all related marketing components, such as providing brand elements to maximize the firm’s visibility at the event, developing advertisements and securing strong placement, etc.
Events – Manage all aspects of internal and external marketing events from planning through execution working closely with various internal teams to ensure high quality, seamless events.
Responsibilities include budget development and tracking; building and managing guest lists; creating and distributing invitations; overseeing internal and external promotion and advertising; managing vendor relations and negotiations; developing event collateral (print and digital); executing and attending the event day-of; managing on-site assistance; post-event reporting and ROI analysis; and managing all surrounding communications (pre- and post-event).
Strategic Research – Conduct competitive intelligence research and compile information regarding existing and prospective clients, competitor activity, and industry or market trends to aid in creating new business development opportunities.
Familiarity with research tools such as Monitor Suite, Capital IQ, and Lexus Nexus is preferred.
Digital Marketing (Web and Social Media) – Create, post, and manage content using all available channels including the firm’s website and key social media networks; regularly create email marketing campaigns using the firm’s email marketing system; and assist with maintaining and updating various marketing pages on the website as needed.
Basic familiarity with HTML is preferred.
Collateral & Matter Database Maintenance – Draft and regularly update marketing content, including practice area descriptions, lawyer biographies, client presentations, and other materials as needed; maintain and regularly update the matter database(s) for assigned practice group(s).
Experience with data entry and matter database management is preferred.
Communications & PR – Draft original press releases and firm news items to distribute through the appropriate channels; coordinate various media opportunities with the firm’s communications team and PR agency; and regularly prepare and distribute firm newsletters and client alerts.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Manage and execute administrative tasks associated with the functions described above, such as securing budget approvals, processing check requests, scheduling marketing related meetings across offices, and similar requests as needed.
