The Remote Grid team’s current mission is to stop catastrophic wildfires by deploying permanently islanded microgrids, Standalone Power Systems (SPS), with solar, batteries, and fuel-powered generation.
Remote Grids deliver energy 24/7/365 to utility customers, as a full replacement for high-risk overhead or high-cost underground power lines.
Remote Grids are also a cost-effective solution to address rebuild and reliability needs for rural, hard-to-reach customers.
The vision of the Remote Grid team is to validate and scale up SPS and similar solutions as standard offerings in the utility toolkit.
Currently PG&E has a fleet of six operational SPS, grow to two dozen in the next two years.

Position Summary The Product Manager plays a central role in the Deployment for PG&E’s Remote Grid program, overseeing the execution of a growing portfolio of high-profile pilot projects currently in flight and under development.
They will apply project management and lean operations to support program scale up, improving process documentation, tracking, waste elimination, and visual management.
The Product Manager also serves as the project developer, driving Remote Grid projects from ideation, through feasibility design, and to Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) contract.
They work directly with customers and a variety of stakeholders (engineering, project management, land acquisition, environmental, business finance, regulatory, legal, customer experience, EPC contractors, etc) to understand the market needs to develop new offerings.
A strong applicant will be organized and motivated, with a strong track record of success in building consensus and managing many moving parts within matrixed teams.
This position is hybrid, primarily working from your remote office and PG&E’s new Oakland General Office based on business need.
In-person activities (about once a week) focus on synchronous collaboration, affinity building, ideation, or planning activities.
The role will also require travel to sites throughout the PG&E service territory (about once a month).
PG&E is providing the salary range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting.
This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job.
The actual salary paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, and internal equity.
We would not anticipate that the individual hired into this role would land at or near the top half of the range described below, but the decision will be dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case.
A reasonable salary range is: Minimum Base Salary (Bay Area) $122,000.
00 Mid Base Salary (Bay Area) $158,000.
00 Maximum Base Salary (Bay Area) $194,000.
00 Minimum Base Salary (California) $116,000.
00 Mid Base Salary (California) $150,000.
00 Maximum Base Salary (California) $184,000.
00 Core Responsibilities: Build, manage, and communicate the program schedule, providing progress tracking (dashboards), risk management tools and status reports to coworkers, leadership and other stakeholders including EPC contractors and regulatory reporting Document and improve processes for the scalability and sustainability of the program Oversee project development milestones through site screening, assessment and selection processes, including coordinating site visits, feasibility studies, economic evaluations, and customer and landowner outreach activities; appropriately involve necessary stakeholders for sign-off processes involved for each milestone Support marketing and educational activities as the subject matter expert, providing content and technology information Incorporate budget forecasts and actual costs from the capital work (pilot project) portfolio into program-level cost tracking and forecasting, establishing and comparing cost metrics to targets Coordinate with all internal stakeholders needed to review RFP’s, select bidders, conduct negotiations, execute contracts, and provide legal support for EPC vendor solicitation processes Review all product deliverables and collaborate with providers to assure the offering is complete and meets the program’s needs, developing new product solutions with attention to technical specifications, customer satisfaction, and regulatory/legal aspects Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college in business, marketing, economics, engineering or equivalent experience 8 years of job-related experience Desired Qualifications: Master’s in Business Administration or other Advanced Degree Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification and/or Certified Scrum Master 5 years of electric industry related experience, including familiarity with California utility regulations and policy Experience leading cross cutting programs or technology deployments, with a focus on creating new process and structure for rapid scale-up Advanced project management, program management, construction management, and/or lean operations skills Ability to lead and influence large and complex product initiatives that has implication and impact across multiple lines of business, product, or service offerings Effectively communicate highly complex ideas with credibility, confidence, and clarity to diverse audiences using verbal, written, and visual means Creative, versatile, efficient and productive in the face of ambiguity Bias toward action with a strong sense of ownership and empathy Solve unique and complex problems, anticipating issues and developing innovative solutions #featuredjob
