The Jennifer Esteen for Alameda County Supervisor District 4 Campaign is hiring several field canvassers.
Field Canvassers will engage with voters at the voter's doors from a predetermined list provided on a mobile application.
Canvassers will identify potential votes for the candidate and persuade undecided voters to vote for the candidate.
This position requires the ability to walk for up to 5 hours per day.
Good communication skills are a must.
Field canvassers will report to the Field Director and be supervised in the field by Canvassing Leads.
This position is part-time, temporary for primary election that ends Mar 5, 2024.
The district includes large portions of Oakland (from Montclair to East Oakland) as well as Castro Valley and Ashland and parts of Pleasanton.
Duties:
• Memorize scripts and statements prepared and provided by the campaign
• Go door-to-door to speak about the candidate to voters
• Develop and communicate knowledge about the candidate’s platform and positions.
• Get commitments, when possible, for votes for the candidate.
• Confidently answer questions and overcome obstacles to getting commitments to vote.
• Input voter responses on a mobile application
• Mentor and train new volunteer and paid canvassers
• Coordinate route paths with other canvassers for efficient coverage of assigned areas
Job Requirements:
• Ability and stamina to walk 5 hours a day, sometimes on hilly streets, uneven terrain and stairs
• Good communication and persuasion skills and fluency in English language
• Must be able to work as an effective team member
• Ability to safely navigate assigned walking areas
• Availability to work on weekend days
• Access to mobile device and ability to install and navigate canvassing application
• Ability to transport self to assigned areas within the district
• Knowledge of local political issues and voter concerns a plus
• Access to vehicle and license to drive a plus
• Languages spoken other than English a plus
No prior canvassing experience required, but is a plus.
Pay: $24-$28 per hour depending on experience.
Hours: 10+ hours per week.
5 hours on Saturday, 5 hours on Sunday.
Potential to pick up additional weekday shifts.
Start: Hiring immediately.
This part-time, temporary position will end on March 5, 2024.
