Position Summary DSCS is seeking a Director of Programs who will partner closely with the Executive Director (ED) to achieve the organization's mission and vision.
The Director of Programs is responsible for developing, maintaining, and overseeing the programs.
This position is expected to consult with the top management to devise new means and strategies to improve programs already in existence, as well as come up with plans for new ones.
The Director of Programs will lead organizational effectiveness by managing program operations of Housing and Shelter, Community Engagement and Organizing, Worker's Right Programs, Community Services, other program services and supervises staff and contractors in these areas.
The position will ensure smooth program operations.
The director will also oversee compliance so that we remain in good standing with all funder/government/partner requirements, and track and report on all general operating- and salary-related resources.
The Director of Programs will demonstrate a passion for the mission of the organization, dedication to the community we serve, and will foster excellent community, government, funder, and partner relationships.
The position will assist with general marketing and the visibility of the organization, build and maintain key relationships, and support the Executive Director in identifying business opportunities.
The Director of Programs will focus on continual process and operations improvements, oversee daily operations, planning, quality control, and monitoring of organizational resources.
The director will create sound policies and procedures, develop tracking and reporting processes and tools, and develop information flows.
The selected candidate will actively engage direct reports to develop work plans, track progress toward goals, and increase their effectiveness and efficiency of leaders.
Responsibilities Leadership & Management Partner with the ED in essential agency leadership activities, including Housing and Shelter Programs, Community Engagement and Organizing, Worker's Right Programs, Community Services, and organizational planning.
In charge of programs operations in the ED's absence.
Support the ED and Board on strategic leadership and organizational development and alignment that meets our mission and realizes our goal of a more unified agency to better serve our community.
Identify best practices and optimize program operations, processes and policies, reporting, information flow, and organizational planning with an eye toward future needs and budget realities.
In coordination with the ED, manage high-level agency-wide projects.
Administration Ensure compliance with all relevant local, state, and federal laws, regulations, and applicable policies set by the Board and regulators.
Ensure completion of annual city monitoring reports, including government program audits and Compliance Monitoring.
Develop and foster relationships with contract managers, government officials, and foundation officers, as needed.
Foster improved collection and use of client and industry data for strategic business decision and storytelling.
Perform contract reviews and as necessary, serve as liaison to legal counsel in addressing legal issues.
Manage program implementation and funding, as well as giving guidance to program coordinators, staff, and volunteers.
Participate in strategic decision-making processes regarding the direction of DSCS' programs and services Supervise agency program staff and serve as agency point person with government.
Finance Manage core agency finance-related projects including: The agency's annual budget process, including supporting Program Directors/Managers in development of annual program budgets; The annual audit, providing necessary reports and documentation to auditors, as necessary; and Implement and evaluate effectiveness of new finance-related policies and procedures, including training of staff.
Review and submit invoices to funders for payment.
Co-lead finance review with program managers and liaise between program staff and finance when questions arise.
Fundraising & Marketing Develop and implement an annual fundraising plan, in consultation with ED and other staff and Board.
Project manage annual fundraising opportunities, including individual donor campaigns and fundraising events.
Respond to grant proposals, coordinating grant writing with and data collection from program staff.
Assist for organizational fundraising, including the identification and pursuit of government contracts, foundation grants, and individual donors.
Cultivate and steward relationships with funders, individuals and institutional donors.
Oversee clear communications messaging and presence on the web, social media, public campaigns, and community actions.
May serve as the primary spokesperson for public events and media.
Other Organizational Duties Participate on the agency's Strategic Leadership Team and other agency committees, as needed.
Conduct business in accordance with the DSCS Employee Handbook, exercising sound judgment and serving the best interests of the agency and the community.
Work within the framework of the agency's mission, vision, values, theory of change, and organization's commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, restorative justice, trauma-informed work, and language justice.
Commit yourself to treating each community member with respect and dignity.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications Qualified candidates will be thoroughly committed to DSCS' mission with proven leadership, administration, and relationship management experience.
Program management experience is desirable in housing, workers' rights, and/or immigration direct services as well as community engagement and organizing.
Concrete demonstrable experience and other qualifications include: 7 or more years of nonprofit management or relevant experience, with emphasis in homelessness, housing, workers' rights, and/or immigration including both direct services and advocacy/organizing.
Advanced degree preferred in public policy, social work, community planning, or other related field.
Excellent understanding of nonprofit finance and budget development, understanding of supportive housing finance highly desirable.
Track record of effectively leading a performance- and outcomes-based organizations, teams, and staff.
Excellence in developing, implementing, and evaluating agency-wide systems, policies, and procedures.
An ability to bring strategic thinking, compassion, and persuasion, and to model a collaborative, effective approach in every aspect of this work.
Proven ability to set and achieve strategic objectives and manage a budget.
Strong marketing, public relations, and fundraising experience with the ability to engage a wide range of stakeholders and cultures.
Strong written and verbal communication skills; a persuasive and passionate communicator with excellent interpersonal and multidisciplinary project and facilitation skills.
Bilingual English/Spanish preferred Ability to work occasional nights and weekends as needed.
