*POSITION: Development Associate* *REPORTING RELATIONSHIP: *Director of Development *POSITION OVERVIEW & ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS* The National AIDS Memorial seeks a thoughtful and strategic Development Associate to significantly help grow its fundraising and development programs, which include grant sourcing and writing, corporate partnerships, individual donors, special events, and legacy giving.
This position reports directly to the Director of Development (DOD), working closely with the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), and the program team to design, implement and execute successful fundraising and development strategies.
The Development Associate is a full-time, non-exempt position and is primarily responsible for managing contributions including gift entry, donor lists and acknowledgements; support special event planning for donor gatherings, administrative and travel support for the chief executive officer and philanthropy leadership and serve as an important creative partner in the philanthropy department in designing campaigns, donor messaging, and donor relations.
The Development Associate position will include weekly travel to our San Francisco Office with an opportunity to work remotely from home - once a week.
20% of their time will be dedicated to administrative support of senior leadership.
*Job Responsibilities:* ● Assist and support the design and implementation of a comprehensive fundraising program to achieve and grow the Memorial’s annual and long-term fundraising goals.
Provide strategic, creative input and implementation of all development related activities for the organization.
● Assist and support the development and growth of major giving programs to achieve increased individual donor and institutional partner support to achieve greater year-over-year revenue streams.
● Manage electronic fundraising tools (Givebutter) and donor management system (Salesforce), make recommendations on system enhancements and effectively utilize them to increase revenue streams and donor records.
● Assist with coordinating and strengthening the Memorial’s planned/legacy giving program, as well as gifts that will help to build the Memorial’s endowment and long-term future.
● Assist with institutional/corporate partnership program, developing sponsor packages and programs that sustain/grow current partner support and attract new partners to support the Memorial.
● Participate in the Memorial’s grantmaking program, devising strategies/plans to attract new grant support, leading the grantmaking team in research, cultivating/stewarding relationships, writing, and securing grant funding.
● Assist and support the strengthening and building of relationships with institutional funders, particularly diversifying and increasing support from foundations and corporate partners.
● Assist with providing strategic and long-term vision in support of donor management systems, explore opportunities to enhance existing technology and communications systems to expand donor and prospect outreach, streamline operations, including gift processing and donor communications and acknowledgement.
● Assist with donor appeals programs – electronic, social media, and print – and continue to expand capabilities to reach new donors nationally and internationally.
● Provide counsel and direction regarding overall fundraising strategies.
Leverage board, outside advisors, and Memorial team to maximize development opportunities.
● Assist with leading, planning and managing the Memorial’s major community and fundraising events.
Examine ways to strengthen existing events to reach current donors and cultivate new donors to the Memorial.
● Provide assistance with coordinating messaging, branding and development materials/collateral, including sponsorship proposals, appeal letters, correspondence, annual reports, etc.
Work together with the communications team and outside consultants to create marketing collateral, advertising campaigns, and social media campaigns.
● In collaboration with DOD manage reports, metrics and evaluation of fundraising programs to ensure effectiveness and determine best strategies to achieve fundraising goals.
● Serve as an external-facing ambassador for the Memorial, representing the mission, vision and values of the organization in the local community, as well as nationally.
*Skills, Qualifications & Competencies:* Highly entrepreneurial; resourceful and flexible; able to anticipate and act on events and opportunities that advance the Memorial’s mission, locally, regionally, and nationally.
Previous experience effectively coordinating or managing fundraising or development programs in the non-profit, business or political organization is a must.
Strong relationships with high-end donors and within institutional and business organizations’ giving programs is crucial, along with experience in public relations, prospecting, business development, and negotiation.
Familiarity with donor development continuum.
Key qualifications include persuasive writing, strong verbal communication, and executive-level interaction skills.
