Reporting to the IT Chief of Staff, the IT Communications director creates and executes the IT strategic communications plan, managing the IT communications domain, and overseeing the IT communications teams.
This role sets the standard for communications across the IT division, including ensuring the strategic execution of IT AVC/CIO communications, and harmonizing communications around delivery of UCSF health, research and education technologies to a broad and diverse stakeholder community.
The IT Communications director will work with UCSF Communications to align IT communication content and messaging across the enterprise.
The role provides guidance to subordinates to execute against departmental standards, in accordance with established policies, and in alignment and coordination with the UCSF Communications team.
The director manages communications programs in support of a growing department of ~900 IT professionals serving the technology and informatics needs for a community of 38,000 academic professionals and staff The director establishes objectives and work plans, delegates assignments to subordinates, and Manages, prepares, administers, and directs resources.
The director reviews and approves recommendations for functional programs, and ensures UCSF IT communications adhere to an aligned standard.
The role includes integration of the new IT operating model into IT communications service delivery and value generation.
This includes maintaining a domain or community of practice for IT communicators, as well as implementing role-based work, to support our ability to innovate at scale.

html Department Description The IT Communications team provides clear, timely, relevant, broad-based, and audience-specific information from the Office of the CIO and other UCSF leadership that empowers IT organization staff, stakeholders, and customers to perform their work with clarity and purpose around its connection to the UCSF mission and community at large.
With a team of subordinate managers and specialists dedicated to various missions, service areas, and/or areas of expertise, IT Communications is responsible for the strategy, execution, and governance of a wide variety of communications vehicles (newsletters, presentations, emails, intranet sites, research, white papers, etc.
) intended to standardize and clarify the department’s goals and messages to the broad array of stakeholders it serves within IT and across the health, education and research mission areas it serves.
The team also includes training-specific communication resources responsible for creating a common standard for educational materials related to departmental technologies and services.
Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training Minimum of 10 years of experience in strategic communications leadership in healthcare or higher education.
Minimum of 10 years managerial, supervisory, or lead experience Thorough knowledge and understanding of technical applications including design concepts, various media and mediums, applications, etc.
