Ritter Center is currently recruiting for a Chief Development Officer.
This full-time, exempt position reports to the Chief Executive Officer.
This role is based in San Rafael, CA, operating out of our Administrative Offices.

Position Description: The Chief Development Officer (CDO) strategically leads Ritter Center’s fundraising and development efforts, procuring contributed revenue through planned giving, corporate gifts and grants, foundation grants, annual and major gifts, special events and sponsorships, and new revenue generation ideas.
The CDO manages the ongoing capital campaign, donor engagement, cross-department Development-related collaboration, and community outreach and works closely with consultants to advance the mission of Ritter Center.
Job Duties and Responsibilities: Work with the Executive Director, Director of Finance, staff, Board of Directors, and Development Committee to facilitate long and short-term fund development strategy, oversight, and growth Review, create, and update policies and procedures related to Development, including the Development Plan, Capital Campaign Plan, Gift Acceptance Policies, Planned Giving, future endowment development, etc.
Lead efforts to maintain and expand support from foundations, as well as report on the use of funds and community impact; Identify, research, cultivate, and steward new donors of all levels, including the use of creative recognition opportunities, meetings, lunches, visits, fundraising events, and networking opportunities in the community Arrange for and prepare leadership to engage with major donors and prospects Maintain and deepen relationships with donors and funders Maintain accountability and ensure compliance with all regulations and laws, as well as the Code of Ethics for fundraising professionals; Support the Board of Directors in efforts to engage with donors and maintain a culture of philanthropy Ensure that Development efforts and staff are aligned with the organization's values and vision Address Development issues that affect the well-being and efficacy of the organization Help recruit, train, and motivate fundraising volunteers Supervise, train, and coach the Annual Giving and Events Manager, Major Gifts Officer and Advancement Associate Ensure Ritter Center’s Development systems are sufficient to support the organization’s needs Identify new revenue sources Keep up to date on developments in philanthropy and fund development Coordinate, develop, and track budgets for existing and future fundraising projects, as well as the Development Department and Capital Campaign budget Work closely with the Marketing team to promote Ritter Center’s mission, procure promotional items to support Development, lead community campaigns, strategize on new activities to engage diverse audiences, and produce successful events Work as a member of the Senior Leadership Team to help guide the culture and health of the organization Facilitate Development Committee meetings and work closely with the Committee Chair Prepare monthly Development reports to be presented at Board of Directors meetings Qualifications: Per our Federally Qualified Healthcare Center (FQHC) compliance requirements, employment at Ritter Center requires all candidates to provide a negative TB test prior to the start of employment, as well as proof of COVID-19 vaccination (unless applying for an exemption), per the August 5th State Public Order for Healthcare Facilities, providers and employees.
Bachelor's degree in Business Administration or related field plus 10 years of leadership experience Development Leadership experience preferred.
Relevant experience may be considered as an alternative to education.
Must have honed organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple deadlines simultaneously Track record of raising up to and including 7-figure gifts Direct experience working with nonprofit boards is required Knowledge of and experience working with FQHC organizations preferred Proven track record of success in fundraising Strong interpersonal, decision-making, and leadership skills Excellent verbal, written communication, and critical thinking skills Analytical thinking and ability to analyze data Proficiency in Microsoft Office and DonorPerfect Occasional travel required.
Occasional nights and weekends are required.
