POSITION OVERVIEW HomeRise is in search of an innovative, entrepreneurial, and creative thinker to join the senior team as Chief Development Ocer (CDO).
The new CDO will partner with executive and board leadership and contract support to grow private fundraising during an exciting period of change management and transition, and will actively participate in strategic planning.
This role is responsible for leading a small team to raise $2 - $3M annually from a diverse range of funding sources.
This individual will have a proven track record as a development leader, passion for our mission, and the ability to build and sustain relationships on behalf of the organization.

Leadership Responsibilities: Serve as a key member of the senior leadership team and thought partner for the CEO, leading the planning and implementation of HomeRise’s overall development strategy and program and fostering cross-department collaboration.
Ensure that annual and long-range fundraising strategies align with organizational values and objectives and support growth and sustainability across all funding areas.
Collaborate with the CEO and Development Committee of the Board to develop annual contributed income goals and a comprehensive development plan with strategies to ensure their achievement.
Execute and manage to the Plan, guiding the participation of both Board and staff leadership and fostering a culture of philanthropy across the organization.
Build, lead, motivate, and mentor a small team of development professionals.
Partner with the Board’s Development Committee Chair to energize and inspire board members in building a culture of philanthropy, and support and encourage board members in their individual fundraising efforts.
Partner with the Governance Committee to help identify and recruit Board members who will add diversity and support resource development.
Partner with the CEO and other members of the senior team to ensure consistent messaging across the organization.
Management/Operational Responsibilities: Supervise management of donor databases, ensuring ecient tracking of donor information, reports, and timely acknowledgement of gifts.
Create, implement, and analyze donor surveys and evaluation systems.
Partner with the nance department to reconcile income and expenses, manage the development department’s budget, and conduct nancial analyses, as needed.
Partner with the director of human resources to meet departmental stang needs, conduct onboarding and training, and engage in ongoing employee relations.
Manage relationships with vendors and consultants, including project management and contracting.
Manage donor engagement strategies through special events and other stewardship activities to deepen donor connections with the organization.
Supervise a comprehensive grant program, including researching foundations and corporate prospects; cultivating funder relations; editing proposals; and working with program staff to meet proposal and reporting deadlines.
Collaborate with team members across the organization to create content and messaging for the website, newsletters, invitations, social media, and other publications that amplify fundraising.
Work cross-functionally to develop compelling stories and content.
Fundraising Responsibilities: Partner with the CEO to develop and implement an annual fundraising plan that meets or exceeds budget goals, and track progress through department and board reports.
Create and manage an active portfolio of 100+ leadership donors and prospects, creating and implementing personalized cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship plans for each donor.
Support the CEO and Board members in the development and management of their own donor portfolios.
Grow philanthropic revenue by using wealth screening and other prospect research, as well as data driven analytics to identify potential new donors, expand HomeRise’s major gifts portfolio, and implement new fundraising initiatives and strategies overall.
Serve as one of the primary gift ocers for planned gifts, major individual gifts, corporate partnerships, foundation grants, fundraising events, and government grants.
Encourage a culture of philanthropy throughout the organization, and partner with the CEO and program staff to increase visibility and awareness of HomeRise’s impact and success stories within the Bay Area philanthropic community.
Represent HomeRise with external constituency groups such as funders, program partners, elected ocials, and community members, as needed.

Qualities/Qualifications: A minimum of ve years of fundraising experience with a demonstrated record of increasing responsibility and accomplishment in cultivating new donor relationships.
Proven success in securing major gifts; grant writing experience a plus.
A minimum of three years team management experience.
Exceptional relationship builder and connector.
Outstanding communication skills, with a high degree of emotional intelligence and cultural competency.

Effective in a deadline-driven, detail-oriented, fast paced environment.
Strong analytical abilities.
Exceptional attention to detail and organization.

Prociency with Microsoft Oce, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Experience with fundraising software or comparable customer relationship management database required Prospect research experience and familiarity with wealth screening software preferred.
