Departmental Overview The Coleman Fung Institute for Engineering Leadership, launched in January 2010, prepares engineers and scientists - from students to seasoned professionals - with the multidisciplinary skills to lead enterprises of all scales, in industry, government and the nonprofit sector.
The Fung Institute is headquartered in UC Berkeley's College of Engineering, which is recognized for its educational and research excellence and is consistently ranked among the top three Engineering colleges in the United States.
The Fung Institute offers educational programs that combine leadership coursework in technology innovation and management with intensive study in an area of technical specialization.
This integrated knowledge cultivates leaders who can make insightful decisions with the confidence that comes from a synthesized understanding of technological, marketplace and operational implications.
The Director of Business Development & Strategic Partnerships is responsible for developing, implementing, managing, and reporting on various strategic initiatives, shaping the future of the Fung Institute's revenue generation program development.
Collaborates with Partner Companies analyzes educational needs and, utilizing faculty and college strengths, create revenue-generating academic programs that may include credit and noncredit courses, short courses, certificate programs, contract courses, and online courses.
This is a 100% FTE, 2-year contract position with the possibility of extension and/or conversion to career.
Application Review Date The First Review Date for this job is: April 11, 2024 - Open Until Filled Responsibilities Program Development, Implementation and Management Directs and administers an independent academic or research program with complete responsibility for administrative and programmatic activities including assisting with the design and development of the academic program or research being developed (i.

, curriculum development).
Establishes and oversees strategic, program, operational, research, and financial plans to achieve intended milestones and outcomes.
Collaborates with Partner Companies and conducts analysis of educational needs and utilizing faculty, college strengths, create revenue-generating academic programs.
Responsible for the design and development of program components for custom programs, oversees execution of new and existing programs, credit and noncredit courses, short courses, certificate programs, contract courses, and online courses.
Responsible for facilitating efforts of various departments, institutes, outside stakeholders and faculty to create revenue generating programs that are targeted and interdisciplinary.
Assesses program's effectiveness, and recommends changes to program's content, policies and procedures accordingly.
Strategy, Partnerships, and Resource/Revenue Development Identifies and pursues new funding opportunities and revenue streams for the Institute.
Researches new products, services, and collaborations that would increase both Fung's market footprint and generate unrestricted income for the institute.
Gather and report on quantitative and qualitative data, analyzing trends and information that may be useful in formulating new initiatives or outreach.
Provides leadership in the larger Fung Institute on industry and community partnerships, program assessment and management, and university-wide collaboration.
As needed, navigates national security constraints in sensitive industries prevalent in engineering industries (AI, computer chips, etc.
), assessing programs' viability within a rapidly-changing environment.
External Relations Serves on committees representing the program, participating in short- and long-term planning.
Represent the university and the department in external meetings with leaders and stakeholders.
Other Participates in professional conferences, and provides public relations support.
Required Qualifications Doctorate in related area and / or equivalent experience training.
Academic background and experience in selected area of research.
Advanced knowledge of administrative, budgetary, human resources and financial principles and practices.
Advanced oral and written communication skills.
Advanced ability to think creatively and independently on concepts requiring advanced analytical skills.
Advanced interpersonal skills and ability to work with diverse groups to achieve results.
Advanced ability to work collaboratively with internal and external peers and managers.
Highly skilled fundraising experience.

Under California law, the University of California, Berkeley is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role and should not offer a salary outside of the range posted in this job announcement.
This range takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, analysis of internal equity, and other business and organizational needs.
It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a position.
Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience.
The budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is $125,000 to $155,000 yearly.
This is a 100% FTE, 2-year contract position eligible for benefits.
