Departmental Overview University Development and Alumni Relations Unit Overview University Development and Alumni Relations (UDAR) strengthens Berkeley's excellence through engagement with alumni, parents, undergraduate and graduate students, and friends of the University, raising public awareness about Berkeley and increasing private philanthropy.
UDAR provides overall direction for the campus philanthropic advancement strategies and works to strengthen unit development in partnership with campus fundraisers.
The Division handles a range of central activities and services encompassing communications, stewardship, prospect development, data management, gift management, reporting and analytics, and more.
Advancement Operations Unit Overview Advancement Operations develops and delivers the centralized business systems and services that support the work of UC Berkeley's 30 decentralized fundraising units-helping them collaborate and communicate in order to maximize their collective results.
Advancement Operations also provides governance through its role as the official source of alumni and fundraising data.
The Advancement Information Services (AIS) unit develops and delivers the primary business data and systems that support the work of UC Berkeley's centralized and decentralized fundraising activities.
AIS oversees several interrelated information technology systems and tools, including the Cal Advancement Data System (CADS), the database in which advancement professionals research and record fundraising activity.
AIS encompasses three units: Data and Business Solutions, Technology Services, and Strategic Planning and Management.
Data and Business Solutions: Data Management Team Overview Data Management (DM) is the office of record for data related to alumni, donors, and friends of UC Berkeley.
DM helps the advancement community meet programmatic and campaign goals by providing accurate, complete data that documents the campus's relationship with its constituents.
DM protects, archives, enhances, and manages the data and delivers it through efficient processes and effective systems in a secure environment.
In addition, DM supports the campus advancement community with customer service on all CADS issues.
Position Overview Reporting to the Senior Director, Data and Business Solutions, this position oversees the day-to-day operations related to data management; manages vendor relationships, contracts, and services, serves as a subject matter expert (SME) analyzing large-scale business projects, processes, and problems; oversees validating system and project requirements as it relates to team needs and established processes; participates in designing details of automated systems; developing user interface design; planning and executing unit integration and acceptance testing.
Collaborates with colleagues in UDAR and across campus to evaluate business needs and services around data access, enhancement, and clean-up; actively manages the auditing of data for quality; participates on or leads cross-functional teams to solve complex business or systems issues.
Responsibilities Supervises the data team and developing of methods and procedures on new assignments.
Provides leadership to other members of department.
Uses highly developed interpersonal skills to effectively motivate and develop others.
Conducts hiring of new employees, transfers, promotions, salary actions, terminations, performance management and budget recommendations.
Selects, develops, and evaluates personnel to ensure the effective and efficient operation of the function.
Provides specialized expertise to identify, evaluate and develop processes and procedures to meet users' needs.
Identifies opportunities to leverage external data sources to meet needs.
Oversees and measures database management work to meet department objectives, data management strategy, and overall organizational strategic initiatives.
Works with data analysts and peer managers across the organization to identify data issues, gaps, and opportunities to improve integrity and for data integration and to expand the database.
Supervises unit integration and acceptance testing activities.
Articulates and provides data systems functional requirements and business rules in the development of complex RFPs.
Understands business needs and how business systems can support those needs.
Consults with clients on effectiveness of data solutions and develops strategies to optimize data options to support program goals.
Analyzes current business practices, processes and procedures internal to the group and with external customers.
Consistently seeks to improve processes for unit efficiency and effectiveness.
Communicates technical information in a clear and concise manner.
Participates as a key member of cross-functional teams to solve complex business or systems issues.
Supervises the work of a unit providing customer service to the campus.
Participates in the development, maintenance, and monitoring of customer service processes and procedures.
Responsible for quality and quantity of customer service support.
Works with management team to identify problems and improve customer service levels, interfacing with other departments/and or functional owners to resolve problems, communicate policy, procedures and practices.

Participates in the development and monitoring of policies and procedures for department or department operations.
Required Qualifications Minimum of three years experience applying advanced knowledge of business analysis functions.
Must demonstrate high level strategic thinking skills and attention to detail through past experience.
Requires high level interpersonal and communications skills and ability to work with both technical and non-technical personnel at various levels in the organization.
Good interviewing, facilitation, and presentation skills are a must.
Demonstrated experience in operations analysis, data and data structure analysis, and reporting.
Experience developing reports using standardized tools, such as query languages, visualization tools, spreadsheets, and databases.
Verbal and Written Communication; requires a high level of professionalism and ability to communication successfully with a variety of colleagues at all levels within the organization.
Minimum five years experience leading and developing highly successful teams.
Quantitative and Analytical skills to identify key performance indicators, track metrics and develop strategies to drive positive change based on findings.
Ability to seek out and understand programmatic goals and strategies within the broad framework of strategies for our department, unit, and the campus; ability to identify and articulate issues or problems that present risk in achieving those goals (at all levels), and contribute to solutions to mitigate those risks.
