Job Summary As a core member of the Berkeley Haas Marketing & Communications team, the Associate Director of Social Media helps tell the story that advances the Haas School's reputation with key audiences, including prospective and current students, the news media, alumni and donors, faculty, and staff.
The role requires an understanding of higher education social media audiences and social storytelling, experience in developing social media campaigns grounded in metrics, and a strong ability to navigate and communicate complex issues related to race, ethnicity, gender, ability, and other intersectional topics.
The Associate Director of Social Media will report to the Director of Faculty Research Promotion & Media Relations and will work collaboratively with both the communications team and the program marketing team to devise, implement, and manage a social media strategy for Berkeley Haas.
The Associate Director will also coordinate with other social media teams across Haas, including Development and Alumni Relations, Centers and Institutes, and other areas.
The Associate Director of Social Media must utilize skills in writing (including social media-specific writing best practices), design, photography, video, animation, and multimedia production to support the office in generating content for social media channels and other digital platforms.
Responsibilities Content development & storytelling Working with the team, create and distribute dynamic, creative, and on-brand social media content of all kinds-textual, photographic, graphical, and video to enhance Berkeley Haas' social media presence and campaigns to build community and increase engagement.
Includes publishing content daily.
Assist in brainstorming, research, interviews, multimedia production (videos/animation/photos/graphics) and writing for social media channels in alignment with Berkeley Haas' brand and mission.
Review daily news and editorial content and identify stories suitable for sharing on social media.
Thoughtfully and appropriately represent diversity, equity, inclusion, justice, and belonging on social media channels.
Create timely content/adapt content for digital signage across campus.
Develop and maintain a content calendar, including identifying future events and important dates.
Manage student workers in content creation and metrics reporting.
Social media strategy Work closely with the communications and marketing teams to design, develop, and implement social media strategy for various channels, campaigns, and priorities that enhance our reputation.
Manage long- and short-term social media campaigns in collaboration with colleagues and cross-campus partners to reach campaign objectives.
Identify and review new tools and platforms and make recommendations to enhance audience engagement.
Community management, reporting, and monitoring Use native and third-party social media monitoring tools to evaluate the performance of social media content, spot trends, and compare our strategy to peer institutions.
Adjust tactics or approaches as needed to achieve objectives.
Create timely reports on social media content performance and engagement.
Engage and develop a social media community, including influencers, peer institutions, and other UC Berkeley and UC system accounts, following brand guidelines and the social media strategy.
Respond to online inquiries with correct information in a timely manner.
Monitor social channels and anticipate potential areas of interest or concern, raising the issue and recommending strategies to the Chief Marketing Officer, Director of Faculty Research Promotion & Media Relations, Director of News, or other office leaders.
Assist with critical communications on social media channels as needed while maintaining strict confidentiality.
Develop policies and guidelines for collaborators who use our social media channels (e.
g.
other Haas departments, student takeovers).
Collaboration Collaborate with Marcom colleagues to identify specific social media opportunities and work with and support the team as needed to complete tasks.
Develop successful relationships with communications colleagues, faculty, students, staff, administrators, and alumni to build social media audiences and develop social media content.
Professional Learning and Growth Embraces the principle of being a "student always" by engaging in opportunities for training, workshops, seminars, continuing education pertinent to the position, or at the suggestion of the supervisor.

Required Qualifications Three-to-five years of professional work experience in marketing, media, or communications performing social media and other multimedia content creation, including experience contributing to or managing social media accounts on behalf of an organization or business.
Demonstrated success in digital storytelling as well as concepts and principles of social media, branding, and marketing.
Working knowledge of requirements of various social media platforms (LinkedIn, Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, etc.
) as well as best practices for boosting engagement of key audiences and analytics tools for these platforms.
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, Google Drive, and basic HTML skills required.
Demonstrated skills in creating, developing, and implementing comprehensive long- and short-term strategic communications plans.
Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
Demonstrated skill with communicating with digital/social audiences including problem recognition, avoidance, and resolution.
Excellent organizational, analytical, critical-thinking, and time-management skills, ability to multitask and adapt to office needs, and strong attention to detail and accuracy.
Demonstrated ability to daily project-manage social media strategy and campaigns, including the ability to multitask, prioritize, and balance varying volumes of work assignments and adapt to the changing needs of the office.

Demonstrated working knowledge of photography/videography, animation, and motion graphics.
Knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite including Photoshop and Premiere Pro preferred; knowledge of other animation tools such as After Effects, Animate, or Procreate.
Salary & Benefits This is a 100% full-time (40 hrs a week) exempt career position, which is paid monthly and eligible for UC Benefits.
