We are looking for new members for our Political Economy Book Club.
(This is not a Meetup group, but a traditional book club, where you do your best to attend every meeting.
) Our book club was founded in 2006.
We read topics such as history of capitalism, world-system theories, ecology, income inequality, political and economic power structures, etc.
Fernand Braudel, Eric Hobsbawm, Immanuel Wallerstein, Karl Polanyi, Karl Marx, Friedrich Hayek, and Thomas Piketty are among many whom we read in the past.
We meet once every 6-8 weeks.
We usually read around 100 pages before each meeting and then discuss those pages.
We are a friendly, sophisticated, and diverse group.
We are an open group, so anyone can join.
Having said that, if you do not have a general interest in politics, history, and/or economics already, you may find our readings and discussions a little dense.
Also, being able to hold a decent conversation/debate is a requirement, as it would be in any book club.
Please be nice and friendly, as well.
We're looking for long-term, committed members.
(If your primary objective is to find your next date, or prove your conspiracy theories, please don't bother.
) Simply email us if you'd like to show up in our next meeting.
Thank you for your interest.
