Job Summary
We are currently seeking a Junior Estimator to join a small family oriented finish carpentry company that specializes in high end residential and some commercial construction projects.
The Junior Estimator represents the Company and its vision for high quality service and craftsmanship while supporting the team in the calculation of material quantity requirements, gathering and preparing routine estimating data and compiling data for use in bid proposal estimates.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
• Read and review project plan sets, identify all wood trim elements that would be installed by a finish carpenter.
• Work with our clients, general contractor project managers and estimators and cabinet fabricators, to identify scope and offer Value Engineering options.
• Develop a list of RFI’s (request for information) to be submitted to the client for clarification on any undefined areas on the plan set.
• Work with our suppliers to identify material pricing for all trim build ups for the project.
• Work with our project managers to discuss installation methods and establish labor formulas and rates.
• Input all quantities into a spreadsheet room by room.
Assign labor formulas and material costs.
Capture any equipment, travel, parking, shop milling, mark-ups, etc.
• Draft a professional preliminary budget proposal letter detailing all inclusions and exclusions to be presented to the client.
• Review in detail all of the findings from the plan set, material pricing and labor formulas used with the Lead Estimator before sending to the client.
• Draft an informative email to the client including the proposal with our provide and install budgets.
• Track project status using our team project tracking system.
• Work on multiple projects at once in different phases of the estimating process.
Experience:
• Minimum 5 years’ experience in construction management, estimating and/or finish carpentry
Qualifications:
• Ability to be productive working remote or in a shared office space setting.
• Very detail oriented and good written and verbal communication abilities
• Ability to understand technical drawings and requirements
• Intermediate or better excel or spreadsheet experience
• Ability to work independently and interface with a team
• Good analytical and math skills
• Experience with Procore, Bluebeam, Fieldwire, Plangrid, any CAD software a plus
