About the Position The Executive Director of Corporate Brand Strategy & Digital Communications role is responsible for shaping and elevating the overall brand image and messaging, driving brand equity and ensuring brand consistency across all internal and external touchpoints, including the development and deployment of Genentech’s brand strategy, architecture and expression across the enterprise.
Based on strategic application of audience analysis and data, your work will ensure that our brand resonates with our target audience and aligns with our company values, strengthens the relationship between the corporate brand and product brands to drive brand cohesion, brand loyalty, improving trust and reputation in Genentech while supporting business performance.
A key focus for the ED will be the revitalization and future vision of the Genentech brand as the iconic and original biotech pioneer leading up to, during and enduring beyond the company’s 50th anniversary.
The ED is also responsible for bringing the corporate brand, company information and culture to life through the core Genentech digital platforms, including gene.
com and our internal site, gWhiz while also connecting this team to the broader reputational and thought leadership vision and agenda.
This role requires a visionary leader who can inspire and lead cross-functional teams to deliver on the brand's promise and objectives, including high-impact brand experiences.
You will be working closely with the VP, Corporate Communications, to realize the brand vision and execution, and will serve as a key member of the new Corporate Communications leadership team all of whom are focused on improving and protecting the Genentech reputation and building a stronger corporate brand.

Key Responsibilities Brand Vision & Strategy: Lead strategic brand vision and strategy to implementation.

Assist in developing and managing brand strategy, goals, objectives, metrics, budgets, and performance standards.
Digital Communications Excellence: You will play a pivotal role in shaping and executing our digital communication strategy to enhance brand visibility, engage stakeholders, and drive business objectives.
By leveraging a talented and creative team you will ensure the organization's external and internal websites as content-rich and engaging, user-friendly, up-to-date, and aligned with the brand and corp communication objectives.
With a relentless focus on data, analytics and bringing the best of the “outside-in” competitive intelligence and mindset, you and the team will continuously improve our sites and platforms to engage stakeholders.
Innovation: Drive creative innovation by providing insights and recommendations by staying current on trends, competition, and emerging brand strategies.
Engage the best brand agencies to partner with us and to Identify new brand expression opportunities to increase existing brand value and relevance.
Brand Identity: Serve as an expert in brand identity and design to ensure they reflect Genentech’s brand essence and resonate with targeted audiences.
Guide and create compelling brand assets (visual, verbal, and experiential) for different channels, including fully leveraging the in-house digital communications team under their leadership.
Brand Architecture: Establish brand architecture and inspire cross-enterprise adoption.
Partner with product marketing leads to ensure product messaging/positioning aligns with overarching corporate positioning.
Drive consistency between corporate and Genentech biopharmaceutical products to improve overall “brand health” metrics.
Marketing and Communication: Lead the development of marketing campaigns that reinforce the brand message and increase brand awareness.
Collaborate with marketing teams and Corporate Communications to integrate brand messaging into various channels, including digital, print, social media, and events.
Brand Pull Through and Governance: Drive consistency of application of the Genentech brand.
Develop implementation strategies within and across the brand architecture organizing principles for all brand expressions (e.
g.
, biopharmaceutical product marketing, DTC, packaging, and digital user experience design).
Provide oversight of brand team members, project management teams, and vendors to ensure quality, consistency, and integration of the work within the strategic direction of the Brand Plan.
Strive for inspired collaboration vs.
strict oversight or “policing” of brand pull-through.
Develop processes and governance to support, as needed, to protect brand integrity and consistency.
Training and Resources: Establish standards and implement easy-to-use guidelines to ensure consistent brand expression, including marketing materials, events, website/digital spaces, and social presence.
Enable visual identity adoption by developing training that fuels brand education across the organization.
Develop and deploy easy-to-use tools and resources to enable coherent brand expression.
Foster a strong internal brand culture by ensuring that employees understand and embody the brand essence and tone.
Brand Ambassadorship: Be the Genentech brand’s champion and clearly articulate the strategy with all stakeholders through inspired creative direction, top-notch storytelling and an audience-first mindset.

Develop supporting rationale to ensure cross-company alignment with brand strategies and goals.
Proactively identify and manage program-level risks and issues—report on the progress to senior leadership and other critical stakeholders.

Qualifications: A Bachelor’s degree is required.
Minimum of 15 years of progressively increasing experience in marketing, communications, business strategy with corporate brand management experience highly preferred Demonstrated results in corporate brand creation, transformation and management Demonstrated ability to lead a team of highly motivated and creative individuals At least 8 years of agency or corporate brand experience managing brand identity, brand architecture, and digital expression Demonstrated ability to develop and execute successful digital communication strategies and leading digital communications, web management/optimization and UX design Proficiency in utilizing analytics tools to measure and analyze campaign performance Strong executive presence, leadership, and influencing skills.

The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of California is $217,000 to $403,000 USD Annual .
Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law.
A discretionary annual bonus may be available based on individual and Company performance.
