Hello Housing, an affordable housing organization in the Bay Area, is seeking to hire a Residential Loan Underwriter who has an interest and a passion for supporting first-time home buyers navigate the journey and reward of purchasing their first home.
This person will work closely with Hello Housing's Program Specialist who oversees all program underwriting activities and training.
Great communication skills, natural curiosity and organizational skills are all key ingredients that Hello Housing is looking for in this position.
Job Summary and Responsibilities
Hello Housing works with numerous government partners to help design and administer affordable housing programs that support income-qualified residence find their way into more affordable housing strategies.
The Residential Loan Underwriter helps the organization ensure that applicants for various programs meet the criteria required to advance.
The Residential Loan Underwriter will perform as an independent contractor on a remote basis.
Essential duties of this role include the following:
Review application packages which include financial documents, such as income statements, tax returns, and credit reports, to assess the applicants overall financial status and eligibility for various program parameters.
Reach out to applicants electronically and by phone to gain clarification on information that has been submitted (where needed) as well as seek additional information that may be needed to evaluate eligibility.
Prepare application summaries for review by Hello Housing's Program Specialist.
Stay informed on current program policies and procedures required for different programs that Hello Housing administers.
Meet with Hello Housing's Program Specialist to review application status and open applicant issues that may require additional support.
Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree desired or related work experience
Work experience in a real estate related field required (e.
g.
mortgage underwriting, real estate development, real estate sales agent, housing counseling, nonprofit housing experience, title escrow company)
