We are looking for volunteers who may have prediabetes or hyperinsulinemia to participate in a research study to help better understand the impact of the sugar, fructose, on health.
Individuals who have a large waist circumference, poor diet, inactive lifestyle, family history of diabetes, or history of gestational diabetes are more likely to have prediabetes or hyperinsulemia, which we will test for.
You may receive a copy of your test results.
The study consists of:
- A screening visit (~1hr), a baseline visit (~4hr), and 4 separate test days (~7hr each; 2-6 wks apart) at the Metabolic Research Center on the Touro University California campus.
- Consuming a 3-day diet provided by the study prior to each test day.
Eligibility:
- Adult volunteers, 20-55y old.
- Not taking diabetes or lipid-lowering medication.
We are especially looking for individuals who may be pre-diabetic or have elevated insulin levels.
- No history of HIV, cancer, kidney, or liver disease.
- Women should not be pregnant or nursing.
- A clinic screening visit and blood draw will determine final eligibility.
