Position Overview:
Provides standard maternity care and counseling to expectant women, including pregnancy, labor, comfort measures and pain management, delivery, caesarean birth (C-section), birth alternatives, postpartum, baby care, and tools to use during childbirth.
Manages the medical care of patients throughout the maternity cycle, including the antepartum, intrapartum, postpartum and gynecological phases.
Delivers age and specialty appropriate patient diagnosis, treatments/procedures, education, consultation and follow-up.
Follows ambulatory care and inpatient standardized procedures, protocols, policy and procedures regulated by the State of California Nurse Practice Act.
Is responsible for supervision, management and development of the clinical staff.

JOB ACCOUNTABILITIES: Lead Administrative Role • Actively participates in program development and initiates improvements for assigned programs • Assists administration, medical director and department manager in actively marketing specialty care services to potential referral sources and third party payers to include hospital tours and Meet and Greet events • Identifies the need for new policies and procedures and communicates such to department manager.
• Participates in the development of policies and procedures as appropriate.
• Participates in data collection for approved research projects by collecting and analyzing data, revising protocols and procedures, revising educational materials, etc.
• Participates in setting annual objectives for the program; plans and leads team meetings; and participates in staff meetings and task forces.
• Evaluates educational materials to ensure adequacy, develops new materials when necessary, in collaboration with pertinent team members • Experience with quality management programs and current knowledge of best practices in quality management.
• Work in concert with nursing staff to improve bedside patient care of laboring women • Ability to lead and motivate individuals, delegate work, set priorities, anticipate and resolve operations issues • Adept at establishing and maintaining effective interpersonal relationships with a wide range of health care professionals and institutions.

• Performs episiotomy as per protocol • Suture episiotomy and 1st and 2nd tears as per Standardized Protocol.
• Performs administration of local anesthesia as per Standardized Protocol.
• Consults with back-up physician as is appropriate as per standardized protocols.
• Documentation is accurate, complete, and timely.
• Communication and care plan to patient, family and health care team members is timely and complete • Perform role as first assistant surgeon in C/S as per Standardized Procedure.
Maintains Standards of Perinatal Standards for quality and effectiveness.
• Assesses plans and organizes own individual work priorities.
• Builds flexibility into the daily routine to anticipate and handle unexpected emergencies.
• Demonstrates knowledge of pertinent information and current status of obstetric patients on a continuous basis.
• Maintains skills and knowledge related to all aspects of obstetric care.
• Actively participates in continuing education and inservices.
• Maintains knowledge of theory, principles, and techniques as demonstrated by standard of practice.
• Actively maintains confidentiality of patient information forums.
• Actively participates in case management CPSP programs forums.

Provides routine and emergency prenatal and postpartum care to obstetric patients.

• Performs appropriate prenatal care plan according to CPSP protocols.
• Utilizes appropriate consultation with MD.
• Adheres to Standardized Policy and Procedures and CPSP Standards.
• Monitors patient through antepartum and postpartum periods; interviews and instigates treatment as per protocols.
• Provides support and education to family and patient.
Inter-disciplinary activities: Establishes and maintains positive, effective relationships with other hospital departments, medical staff, and community entities.
• Resolves problems related to work assignments, departmental functioning and department services in a timely and effective manner, flexibly adapting to changes in the work environment and appropriately responding to urgent situations.

EDUCATION: Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
Master's: nursing CERTIFICATION & LICENSURE: RN-Registered Nurse of California CNM-Certified Nurse Midwife BLS-Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider certification required based on the department requirements TYPICAL EXPERIENCE: 8 years of recent relevant experience.
SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE: Demonstrated expertise and technical competency in the medical care of pregnant women, including a solid knowledge of community resources and referrals and basic sonogram evaluation skills.
Working understanding of the dynamics and intervention techniques related to stressful or crisis, high-risk prenatal situations.
Awareness of available substance abuse and diabetic programs, in addition to standard Perinatal Education offerings (classes, materials, etc.
) Solid analytical and project management skills, including the ability to analyze problems, reach practical conclusions, and institute effective changes.
Possess written and verbal communications skills to explain medical lab results or sensitive information clearly and professionally to diverse audiences.
General computer skills, including working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, a laboratory information systems (LIS) to place orders/receive results, and EPIC to create/update patient electronic health records.
