The Director of Clinical Informatics leads adoption and optimization of the Electronic Health Records (EHR) and associated clinical applications.
Areas of Responsibility: Clinical Duties: Provides for the diagnosis and treatment of health center patients within the scope of his/her license to practice medicine for a specified panel of patients at one of the health center’s large sites Provides back-up for advanced practice clinicians on site, or by phone during the day or after hours Management Responsibilities: Serves as advisor to the CMO and clinical leadership team with regard to clinical issues and the impact that EHR and associated application has or may have on clinical practice Provides clinical leadership in the areas of planning, development, preparation and implementation of the EHR, associated applications and upgrades Gains the support of clinicians regarding information technology needs and priorities Works closely with the training team to design and implement onboarding and ongoing EHR training to clinicians Provides responsive service based on user needs including training to assure widespread acceptance and provider use of clinical systems Identifies areas to promote use of Epic to create efficiencies for clinicians and to improve the quality of care Leads the customization of the EHR for clinical use and supervises all Epic Provider Builders in any EHR build tasks Designs and implements clinical decision support to support clinical guidelines and best practices to improve the quality of care Works closely with CMO and Director of Quality Improvement to provide leadership in supporting quality initiatives and a culture of innovation Uses independent judgement to recommend hiring, promotion, disciplinary action of EPIC provider builders Participates on committees to support operational efficiency and governance of clinical systems Remains current with new technologies especially as it relates to EHR use and promotes a positive IT organizational culture Collaborate with consultants to leverage their insights and expertise, actively incorporating their recommendations to enhance the overall efficiency and effectiveness of systems Leadership Responsibilities: Models a strong belief in the mission, vision, and values of the organization Provides clear direction and structure for the team in order to support their success.
Shares important and relevant information with the team Promotes the Employee Assistance Program (EAP) as a resource for employees Provides feedback, instruction, and development guidance to help others excel in their current or future job responsibilities and plans and supports the development of individual skills and abilities Conveys performance expectations and provides timely feedback to ensure performance standards are met Manages variable and other productive labor to budget, adjusting timely as needed to revenue changes Manages key, non-labor operating costs in line with budgeted levels Education/Experience: Board Certified MD or DO with a Master’s in Public Health or Medical informatics preferred Healthcare information technology experience Epic accreditation as Physician Builder Three or more years of experience providing primary care in a family medicine setting Possesses a current California License and DEA Advanced study in Clinical Informatics desirable Desired Skills: Proven leadership skills, must be an effective consensus builder Team leader and team player Excellent interpersonal skills, can work collaboratively with diverse personalities Understanding of clinical workflow and technology needs in the outpatient FQHC setting Performs well in a complex changing environment Ability to analyze complex problems and develop recommendations and solutions Understands standardization of systems Advanced understanding of HIPAA and its application in outpatient practice Possesses practical experience using technology to support patient care High integrity and trustworthiness Knowledge of legal and ethical standards for the delivery of medical care Knowledge of related accreditation and certification requirements Knowledge of quality, safety, and/or infection control standards Knowledge of current principles, methods and procedures for the delivery of medical evaluation, diagnosis and treatment Licenses and Certifications: State of California Medical License or Osteopathic Physician License Federal DEA Registration Medical Specialty License or Certification; Board certified or Board Eligible in Specified Area of Medical Specialty Must maintain CME as required for certification renewals Must be CPR Certified Candidate must be able to successfully meet PHC’s credentialing and privileging requirements Language Skills: Ability to read, analyze and interpret common technical journals, financial reports and legal documents.

Ability to positively communicate and manage change.
Bilingual in English and Spanish, both written and verbal preferred.
