Job Description and Duties
LIMITED TERM 12 MONTHS; MAY BE EXTENDED UP TO 24 MONTHS OR BECOME PERMANENT.

Under the general direction of the Chief Deputy Warden, this position serves as the administrative head and is responsible for the functions and programs of the Health Care Access Unit.
The Associate Warden directly supervises the Health Care Access Unit Captain and oversees the following areas: Correctional Health Services Building, East Block Clinic, West Block Clinic, North Block Clinic, H-Unit Clinic, Adjustment Center Clinic, North Segregation Clinic, Outside Hospital (Second and Third Watch) and Transportation.
This position has been designated as a Conflict of Interest (COI) Statement position and incumbents are responsible for submitting their Statement of Economic Interests (SEI) Form 700 upon taking or leaving office (including Out of Class assignments) as well as annually by April 1 of each year.
Responsible for assuring timely inmate access to health care by facilitating coordination and communication between custody, administrative, and health care operations by monitoring compliance with priority medical ducat policies and procedures; reviewing inmate assignments and ducating schedules to ensure they provide inmate access to medical care; monitoring the availability of custody staff to continue medical operations during normal program operations and during institution lockdowns.
Coordinate with Post Assignment Schedule (budgeted number of positions) and Master Assignment Schedule (scheduling of positions) to ensure custody positions established to provide access to health care services are appropriately assigned and meet inmate-patient needs.
Directs the custody oversight of all inmates transported off institutional grounds; reviews and completes CDCR 7252’s determining the security requirements necessary to safely transport inmates, ensures timely health care operations and minimizes associated overtime costs.
Coordinates security inspections of off-site health care operations to ensure the safety of staff and inmate-patients.

San Quentin State Prison is California’s oldest and best-known correctional institution, which was established on the site currently known as Point San Quentin, in July of 1852, as an answer to the rampant lawlessness in California at the time.
The prison rests overlooking the bay on 432 acres and is located just 12 miles north of the Golden Gate Bridge in the county of Marin.
The walled prison is made up of four (4) large cell blocks (West, South, North, and East Block), one (1) maximum security cell block (the Adjustment Center), Central Health Care Service Building, a medium security dorm setting and a minimum-security firehouse.
