Position Title: Assistant Director, Financial Aid Department Name: Student Financial Services Position Reports To: Associate Director of Financial Aid FLSA STATUS: Exempt Salary: $66,560 Benefits: The University's comprehensive benefits program Days & Hours: Monday through Friday, 37.
5 hours per week.
Standard work schedule is 9:00 am to 5:30 PM, may be adjusted.
Flexible schedule may require evening and weekend hours during peak periods.
This position is hybrid and will require in-person availability.
BASIC FUNCTION AND SCOPE OF JOB: Under the general direction of the Director of Student Financial Services, the Financial Aid Counselor reports to the Associate Director of Financial Aid is primarily responsible with assisting and advising perspective, admitted and current undergraduate students.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Serve as front line staff responding to inquiries via phone, email or in person from prospective, admitted, and current undergraduate students.
Counsel and advise prospective, admitted and currently enrolled students about their financial aid options and the application procedures.
Analyze financial aid applications, as needed; determine eligibility, and award various types of financial aid in accordance with changing federal, state, and institutional regulations and policies including exercising professional judgment to select cases for further review and resolving conflicting information.
Completes the Quality Control process of all awards prior to the release of award letters/notifications.
Oversee the Perceptive Image System to ensure that documents are linked and filed on a timely basis; Ensure documents in workflows are processed weekly.
Develop fluency in the use of financial aid software applications and systems (Ellucian Colleague, Recruit, Perceptive), NSLDS, COD, CPS and FSA Partners Connect.
Develop and maintain strong working relationships with colleagues internally and externally.
Works as a vital member of the Student Financial Services Department and provides support to other team members as needed, especially during peak periods.
In collaboration with other team members, develop, coordinate and deliver financial aid workshops to new students on available financial aid resources.
Assist with training and providing work direction to federal student workers and other hourly workers.
Works closely with other university offices, such as Division of Student Success, Advising, Registration, Admissions, and Student Accounts, to ensure university compliance with all applicable regulations.
Manage priorities and respond to various ad hoc requests for data and reports.
Provide regular scheduled data reports on a timely basis.
Create, update and maintain various forms, reference materials and documents.
Monitor and interpret new and updated regulations.
Remain competent and current on systems and financial aid through self-directed professional reading, developing professional contracts with colleagues, and/or attending professional development courses/conferences/webinars (as budget allows).
Perform other duties as assigned by the Associate Director or Director.
Other duties as assigned.
Education requirement: Bachelor’s degree; or commensurate experience.
Years of experience: At least 3 years’ experience working in financial aid.
Experience in university setting with in depth knowledge of all the functional areas handled by but not limited to financial aid, student accounts and VA educational benefits.
Experience working with confidential information and understanding of the Federal Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).
Knowledge of: Strong understanding of Federal Compliance and Consumer Information.
Excellent knowledge of Excel and other reporting tools needed.
Direct job-related requirements: Experience using the following student systems preferred: Ellucian Colleague, Recruit, Perceptive, Outlook, Shared Point and OneDrive.
Knowledge of Department of Education softwares: NSLDS and COD System Ability to research Department of Education Policies and Procedures Proven proficiency with computers including Microsoft Office and/or applications as required for specific position.
