Clinic by the Bay (www.

org) is a free, volunteer-powered health care clinic in San Francisco.
Located in the Excelsior neighborhood, the clinic is based on the successful national model, Volunteers in Medicine (www.
volunteersinmedicine.
org).
This model engages both retired and practicing: doctors, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, dentists, nurses and non-medical volunteers.
These volunteers provide compassionate care, free-of-charge, to the working uninsured.
Our mission is to understand and serve, with dignity and respect, the health and wellness needs of the medically underserved in the San Francisco Bay Area.
We are looking for a part-time Behavioral Health Therapist to provide mental health services to our patients.
most of whom are managing chronic conditions like hypertension, high cholesterol, and diabetes and who require care from a clinic that can provide medical, behavioral health, and dental services in a respectful and culturally competent manner.
This position is for 12 hours a week.
Competitive salary based upon experience.
*DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES* Provides clinical and case management services to patients, interviews patients; conducts initial and ongoing psychosocial strength-based assessments.
Develops initial and ongoing treatment plans for patients; identifies and pursues necessary resources to implement treatment plans.
Conducts individual psychotherapy sessions; provides education on behavioral health care symptoms and the role of medication in alleviating such symptoms; diagnoses illnesses and dual recovery/co-occurring disorders.
Prepares and maintains psychosocial case histories for use in diagnostic evaluations and monitoring patient progress.
Provides crisis intervention as needed; stabilizes patients in crisis including brief intervention in clinic; arranges for hospitalization and coordinates treatment elements.
Notifies patients and families of community resources and makes referral as necessary to meet basic needs such as housing, medical care, and employment.
Maintains all records in accordance with the Quality Assurance standards of the California Board of Behavioral Sciences.
Participates in clinical case presentations and peer reviews.
Prepares reports; case summaries, correspondence and other written materials.
Collaborates with other departments and agencies related to patient treatment planning.
May serve as a liaison to other community agencies.
Works closely with the Executive Director, Medical Director, and Clinic Management to ensure effective mental health services for our patients.
*KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS* Knowledge of: Current theories, practices, and principles and practices for services to clients with behavioral health care symptoms and diagnoses.
Psychological diagnostic methods and terminology.
Cultural and social factors affecting behavior patterns.
Wellness, recovery and resiliency-oriented strategies and supports.
Dual recovery/co-occurring disorder treatment, screening and assessment tools.
Community needs, resources and organizations related to behavioral health care.
Clinical standards of practice and licensure requirements.
Principles and practices of direct client service delivery.
Principles of social needs, problems, attitudes and behavioral patterns.
Applicable federal, state and local laws, rules and regulations.
Office of administrative practices and procedures, including records management and the operation of standard office equipment.
Completed applications related to the work.

Organize and prioritize work and meet critical deadlines.

*MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS* Education: Possession of a master’s degree from a recognized college or university in social work, marriage and family therapy, clinical or educational psychology or in a closely related field.
AND License/Registration: Possession of a valid registration as an Associate Social Worker, Associate Marriage and Family Therapist Intern, Psychological Assistant/Associate, or Associate Professional Clinical Counselor from the applicable licensing authority: (California Board of Behavioral Sciences or California Board of Psychology.
