You will be a key member of the legal team in supporting our groundbreaking neurodegenerative research, robust clinical pipeline, and strategic collaborations with leading pharma companies.
You will help manage Alector’s privacy and compliance programs, and handle transactional matters for teams across various company functions.
By collaborating directly with business groups to build, strategize, implement, and continue to improve our privacy program.
You will assist business partners across the company to assess and handle complex compliance risks.
Working closely with business and legal colleagues, you will draft and negotiate agreements that meet Alector’s business and strategic objectives while mitigating risk.
In your role, you will advise decision makers and engage in projects, activities and transactions that are central to meeting Alector’s goals.
As the company evolves, you will be involved in preparing for the company’s future, managing its evolving risks, and taking on new responsibilities.
Your input and experience will be appreciated and sought out to contribute to Alector’s success.
You will apply your existing legal skills in handling compliance/risk management, privacy, and transactional matters, while learning new skills and playing a key role in the growth of the company.

During the first year, your responsibilities and goals will include: Strategizing with business partners on how best to handle legal issues, identify risks, and together with decision makers, develop pragmatic solutions in the areas of privacy (including GDPR) and healthcare compliance Contracting across multiple functions, including drafting and negotiating agreements to advance critical Alector programs Developing efficient processes/procedures to implement business solutions that manage legal risks and enable business success Collaborating with other members of the Legal Team to develop policies and trainings that increase efficiency and consistency on a company-wide basis Assisting on other projects as needed as a member of our highly collaborative legal team We'd love to hear from you if you have: Desire to have a positive impact on unmet medical needs in neurodegenerative diseases at a dynamic company dedicated to developing treatments for these diseases.
Demonstrated ability to (i) identify, understand and digest complex business and legal matters typical of a clinical-stage biotech company, (ii) propose solutions that balance business objectives and risk mitigation, and (iii) communicate legal analyses and potential solutions clearly and concisely to enable efficient and effective decision-making.
Demonstrated expertise with GDPR, CPRA and other privacy-related matters Demonstrated expertise in drafting and negotiating a broad range of agreements in support of diverse biotech company functions Experience working on compliance audits/risk management plans is a plus A positive “can-do” attitude and goal-oriented approach.
Effective collaborations are a must! JD degree from an accredited law school with membership in good standing with a state bar, with the ability to practice law in-house in California 5 or more years of experience as a corporate attorney in a pharmaceutical/biotech legal department and/or a law firm supporting pharmaceutical/biotech clients Demonstrated leadership skills and ability to positively influence decision-making at all levels Ability to work independently/proactively and as part of a team Excellent business judgment Strong communication and interpersonal skills, both oral and written.
Ability to manage outside counsel $260,000 - $329,000 a year Base salary ranges will be determined by the candidate's level, qualifications, skill set, and experience.
