Key Responsibilities: Contract Preparation and Negotiation: Prepares and negotiates terms and conditions for various complex business contracts.
Drafts and negotiates agreements like training affiliations, clinical professional services, medical director services, core lab services, sales and service agreements, and customizes contracts if no applicable template exists.
Consults with faculty, departments, and internal stakeholders to address contracting issues.
Guidance and Mentorship: Provides guidance, counsel, coaching, and mentoring on complex contractual matters to senior departmental administrators and less experienced staff.
Offers solutions and recommendations regarding contracting issues.
Compliance and Documentation: Maintains necessary approvals from compliance committees and utilizes internal systems (e.
g.
, CACTAS, PSA/Affiliation Application) for compliance documentation and approval.
Updates contract agreement records with communications, status changes, and file versions for efficient workload management.
Institutional Representation: Acts as the institutional representative, authorized by UCSF, to assume obligations imposed by laws, regulations, and UCSF policies related to contracting principles.
Relationship Building and Training: Develops and sustains professional relationships with internal and external partners.
Conducts specialized training and develops content for educational workshops in business contracting.
Continuous Development and Projects: Aims for increasing mastery and skill level related to the role and industry standards.
Seeks institutional signature authority for contracts with higher annual direct costs.
Actively participates in ongoing educational sessions and potential conference presentations.
Works on special projects assigned by the Director or Principal Business Contracts Supervisor, including lead roles in complex agreements or becoming a Subject Matter Expert for team support and individual growth development.
The hourly compensation range for this role is $40.

An offer will take into consideration the experience of the final candidate, position requirements, AND the current salary level of individuals working at UCSF in a similar role.
For roles covered by a bargaining unit agreement, there will be specific rules about where a new hire would be placed on the range.

html Department Description UCSF's Temporary Employment Program (TEP) recruits and hires temporary employees for immediate clerical and technical support services to UCSF Departments and various off-campus locations.
UCSF departments deploy temporary employees to work on special projects, fill in for regular employees who are on vacation or leave, or to temporarily fill a vacant position during recruitment.
Frequently temporary employees become successful candidates for career and limited appointment positions.
Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
Demonstrated proficiency in contract law, legal terms, and University of California policy application to various contract types.
Knowledge and interpretation of sponsor, institutional, and departmental policies, including current compliance regulations in research administration.
Leadership and resource management skills, including coaching, mentoring, and providing feedback.
Strong organization, communication, and customer service focus across diverse areas.
Analytical skills to define problems, identify issues, formulate alternatives, and select resolutions.
Experience in negotiating contracts and demonstrating requisite contract knowledge for additional signature authority.
Proficiency in database applications, word processing, and Microsoft Office software.
Ability to manage high-volume and complex transactions.
Proficiency in providing high-quality customer service and maintaining professional communication with various stakeholders.
Collaborative team player, contributing to identifying procedural improvements and implementing new methods.
Demonstrated ability to write reports, create presentations, and craft documents effectively.
Adaptability in supporting change management objectives and negotiating various agreements.
Capacity to work independently under pressure, while knowing when to seek guidance.
Ability to manage the responsibilities associated with signature authority, considering the broader impact on the University and its stakeholders.
Five or more years of related work experience showcasing analytical, problem-solving, initiative, judgment, decision-making, organizational, and communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications JD and experience as a practicing attorney specifically with negotiating contract terms, including intellectual property and indemnification.
Understanding policy distinctions among contract mechanisms and advising on appropriate mechanisms for support.
Advanced competence in spreadsheet and database software for financial analysis and reporting.
General knowledge of University policies related to academic personnel, facility use, research compliance, stewardship responsibilities, intellectual property, etc.
Extensive knowledge of UC contracting policies.
