The Bar Association of San Francisco (BASF) currently has an exciting opportunity for a *Part Time Attorney Administrator, IDA* to be part of the team! *About BASF:* BASF is a nonprofit organization and the oldest voluntary bar association in California.
Today, over 7,500 San Francisco lawyers are members of BASF, which prides itself as being one of the most active and innovative local bar associations.
Our offices are located in the Financial District.
In addition to educational, networking and business development services for its members, BASF provides a variety of legal services to San Francisco residents including our Lawyer Referral and Information Service.
In addition, the communications department supports the efforts of the Justice & Diversity Center (including the Homeless Advocacy Project) which is the largest provider of legal services to San Franciscans.
*About the role: * This an exciting opportunity for a highly experienced and seasoned delinquency practitioner well versed in the law and best practices and dedicated to representing the indigent clients of our Delinquency Court.
In Delinquency Court, approximately 40% of all indigent cases are assigned to qualified independent counsel through the IDA due to the Public Defender’s identification of a conflict of interest.
In essence, under the direction of the Court Programs Director and in collaboration with the Superior Court, the Attorney Administrator (IDA) – Juvenile position is responsible for the quality of representation of minors in the Delinquency Court and the development and monitoring of best practices as well as bill review.
As such, this position requires a deep understanding of the most complicated criminal prosecutions, criminal law/procedure, evidence law, representation unique to juveniles facing criminal prosecution, multi-disciplinary programs, and court protocols.
* This position is responsible for the assignment of qualified counsel as soon as conflict has been declared and though the position is part time, availability to respond to the request for appointment of counsel is critical to this position.
* This position oversees and develops ongoing Continuing Legal Education Programming for Delinquency practitioners especially regarding updates to the rapidly changing area of law and the legal interests/needs of the panel practitioners.
* This position also oversees and continues to develop holistic defense protocols in collaboration with the Multidisciplinary representation Program Coordinator and the Superior Court * This position develops and maintains policies and protocols for guidelines for local practice, professional development and billing, in collaboration with the IDA team and the Superior Court.
* This position meets monthly with the panel of Delinquency practitioners to report on new developments in procedures and best practices, hear and trouble-shoot ongoing concerns of the delinquency practitioners, assists in the recruitment of and orientation of additional attorneys for panel membership.
This position also serves as an informed and critical stakeholder in all delinquency collaborative meetings, on equal footing with the Public Defender, District Attorney, and Juvenile Probation Department and must demonstrate a well-informed ability to work collaboratively and creatively with all stakeholders.

This position also participates in other subject area multidisciplinary meetings/trainings in the areas of youth development, racial disparities, poverty, education, juvenile mental health, community programs serving youth, as well as carceral alternatives for youth.
This key position works deliberately and collaboratively to assist with best practices and outcomes in all juvenile justice proceedings.
* This position reviews and processes requests for compensation from court-appointed delinquency attorneys and all investigator and other ancillary service providers working with the delinquency attorneys, and develops and institutes appropriate cost saving measures and efficiencies in processing compensation requests; in conjunction with the Superior Court, the Court Programs Director and IDA staff, updates and maintains reporting forms, billing requests and a policies and procedures manual for the IDA program (Delinquency).
This position communicates directly with individual panel attorneys regarding their specific compensation requests for work performed and forwards any unresolved differences regarding the reasonableness of billing to the IDA (Delinquency) Fee Audit Committee.
* This position, in collaboration with the IDA team and under the direction of the Program Director is also responsible for understanding practice and billing trends and for developing analytic tools designed to measure protocols and outcomes in the program with the goal of assuring high quality and efficient representation.
* This position requires a strong working knowledge of billing programs and ability to work as a contributing team member to build a new on-line billing program designed to assist with relevant statistical reporting as needed to best measure efficiencies, costs and outcomes.
Reports to the Court Programs Director.
*This is part-time position.
* Job Type: Part-time Pay: $90.
