Capiz Shell/Mother of Pearl Placemats - Vintage - Made in Philippines - $375 (bernal heights)

This is a vintage set of capiz shell mother-of-pearl placemats initially bought in the 70s.
The original set has seven pieces remaining and was supplemented by another four pieces in the early 80s.
Original seven are more golden in color and show more age.
Some have minor chipping in the resin top coat on the edges.
Newer four are less golden but mix in with the set well.

Each mat is 15 inches in diameter with a scalloped edge and a cork backing.
Each mat is about 1/8th of an inch thick and despite the looks on the photographs has a flat top surface of sealing resin.
The kitchen light can really make these pop when the reflection hits them right.
Must be seen to be appreciated.
Labelled with Manex Made in the Philippines sticker on the original seven.
Stamped with purple Made in Philippines on the newer four.
Handmade with layered Capiz shells, known as Windowpane Oysters, native to the Philippines.
Possibility purchased from Gumps in San Francisco.
This set has been in storage and not used since the 80s.
