VINTAGE HAND-CRAFTED PEWTER DECORATIVE HANGING PENDULUM WALL CLOCK/PIECE OF ART.
ITALIAN MADE.
BATTERY POWERED.
This quartz clock is housed in a lovely pewter (95% silver) frame with elaborate, well-detailed relief decorations of Dorian columns and inverted capitals with leaves, wheat shafts, and shell motifs.
The clock is made of heavy and solid cast pewter (not plastic)
Its off-white genuine enamel face/plate has beautiful metal open-work black Roman numerals, spade- shaped, black metal open work minute and hour hands (to distinguish from white background) and, at its center, a very well painted cherub with a wreath, surrounded by billowing clouds, all in muted pastels.
The swinging solid pewter silver pendulum, with brass rods, is perfectly embellished to fit the elaborate decorations on the clock frame
The clock has a very high quality and precise silent quartz movement and electronic oscillator that ensures accurate time (and a good night’s sleep!)
The clock is easy to use, with an opening for hanging.
So, this is not only a well-functioning, practical European timepiece that keeps time accurately and precisely, but it is a stunning silver piece of wall sculpture, a piece of art.
In fact, this is one of the most beautiful wall clocks I have seen.
Given that the clock is a unique piece of art, it can be used as an accent piece, and will fit in any décor or interior design , and in any room
Though made in Italy, it was bought in a Salzburg shop then stored for 30 years and has never been used.
Hence it is pristine, new condition.
In terms of authentication, one can find on the clock’s back the label for the Salzburg shop from which it was purchased.
The famous shop is called Lackner, kunsthandwerk.
Kunsthandwerk translated means a selection of the very best in unique or custom handmade pieces, of which this is a very good example
Also on the back of the clock, one can find the stamps “Made in Italy, “ a stamp showing the clock was made of “pewter”, and a stamp with hands surrounding an object which is either an affidavit that the piece was handmade or the signature of the artist.
My recollection is it was the signature of the artist.
Please see photo of back of clock
Imprinted on the front of the clock, one can find the stamp “Made in Italy ,” “Pewter 95%,” and a series of letters which I cannot decipher, but which I believe may be the written signature of the artist.
The shop is still in existence, so perhaps with a little detective work, one can determine its exact meaning.
In sum, this is a unique and gorgeous clock made of high-quality materials and mechanism.
It can be a wonderful addition to your home or a first rate gift for your favorite someone.
And it is very reasonably priced
