Of all the brands on the consumer electronics store shelf, I purchased Harmon Kardon because the brand was like the Apple of the CD era.

* One thing that made this generation of Harmon Kardon amplifiers special is that they have more 'headroom'; Means they can deliver more current when needed.
HK's rating of 45 watts is a conservative one.
The HK 550 Vxi has a circuit design that can drive good-sized, efficient speakers to make the output feel like you have 40% more watts.
It's a warm sound that feels 'large' -- as opposed to the sterile sound of music played through some of HK's competitors' components.
Bonus: Although I do not have the original cardboard HK box, you can carry out this component in a sealed-shut, appropriate-sized, clear SteriLite storage tote with bubble-wrap (included in the price :)
