Middle School Learning Specialist
Hours: Full-time or 80% FTE beginning August 2024

Marin Horizon serves about 300 students from toddler
through grade eight and is located in Mill Valley, CA.
POSITION DESCRIPTION
Marin Horizon seeks a Learning Specialist to provide support to students that have a diagnosed learning disability.
In the Upper School, members of the student support team provide push-in support and confer with students 1:1
or in small groups during office hours.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Instruction
Collaborates with teachers to utilize UDL (Universal Design for Learning) to plan and implement
instructional units.
Meets regularly with teachers throughout the year and advises on accommodations and instructional
strategies as necessary
Instructs individuals and/or small groups of students in their classrooms
Instructs a small number of students with a language exemption during Spanish class times.
Supports classroom and homework content instruction
Parent Communication
Schedules family conferences on a regular basis
Provides progress updates for parents
Responds to parent requests/concerns and communicates parent concerns to teachers
Serves as liaison between outside support providers and the school.
Update student communication log regularly.
Staff Coordination/Communication
Works in partnership with teachers to ensure students are receiving relevant accommodations.
Attends team and student support team meetings weekly to discuss/ refine students' on-going
accommodation, progress and instructional needs
Screening and Evaluations
Confers with teaching team alongside the Director of Student Support to establish individual learning and
behavioral goals for students
Conducts observations of student behavior and learning style
Conferences with parents, teachers, and administrators concerning evaluations
Other Responsibilities
Actively participate in professional development sessions
Communicate professionally with peers, supervisors, parents, and students
Participate in after school/evening activities: i.
e.
, parent conferences, weekend tours, overnight trips
Supervise arrivals/departures as well as recess when assigned
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree in related field required; educational specialist credential and/or master's degree highly
preferred
2-5 years related experience and training as a special educator, learning specialist, or educational therapist
Experience teaching small groups and/or one-on-one intervention
SALARY AND BENEFITS
Anticipated full-time salary range between $74,000 and $110,000 depending on education and experience
