Departmental Overview The Basic Needs Center acts as a virtual and physical hub that provides and connects students to essential services that impact health, belonging, and overall well-being.
The Basic Needs Center team is committed to fostering belonging and justice on the UC Berkeley campus through a robust model that includes education, prevention & emergency relief programs in the core areas of basic needs: food security, housing security & financial stability.
Application Review Date The First Review Date for this job is: December 14, 2023 Responsibilities Program Development, Coordination & Project Management (50%): Provides strategic planning for the development of the Basic Needs Center's housing programs.
Applies campus and system-wide basic needs research, and housing-related legislation and regulations to inform, improve and/or expand on Basic Needs Center service delivery model for housing security programs & services.
Coordinates the development and implementation of prevention and educational housing resources, programs & services including but not limited to housing search resources, housing security workshops and/or educational series.
Project manages and operationalizes program and service delivery model improvement recommendations for existing housing security services including but not limited to on and off campus emergency housing and services for vehicularly housed students.
Strategic Partnerships (25%): Develops strategic partnerships with off-campus housing providers including but not limited to the Berkeley Student Co-Ops, Alameda County Coordinated Entry System, tenants' rights organizations, and rapid rehousing providers to strengthen relationships, programming and opportunities for collaboration.
Develops, strengthens & maintains partnerships with on campus partners including but not limited to Cal Housing, Student Legal Services, University Village, and Cal Rentals to collaborate around students on-campus housing experience.
Student Support (15%): Provides case management and coordination for students at risk of losing housing and who are unhoused.
Coordinates care for students living in short-term emergency housing including on and off campus locations including coordinating logistics of housing arrangements and acting as the point of contact and liaison between the student and the emergency housing location staff.
Connects students with the appropriate housing resources on and off campus serving as a liaison to community resources.
Housing Advocacy (10%): Assists with campus advocacy efforts for housing services through the Basic Needs Center.
Acts as the primary point of contact for the UC Berkeley campus for BNC housing services in the UC Systemwide Basic Needs efforts.
Required Qualifications Knowledge of housing programs, legislation, regulations, and/or policy.
Knowledge of social work, counseling, student affairs, and/or student life specialization.
Proficient abilities in project management, problem identification and reasoning skills.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
Advanced skill in judgment and decision-making, problem solving, identifying measures of system performance and the actions to improve performance.
Strong skills in analyzing, researching and synthesizing large amounts of data for preparing sound and relevant proposals / analyses.
Knowledge of common organization- or research-specific and other computer application programs.
Ability to use discretion and maintain all confidentiality.
Ability to multi-task with demanding timeframes.
Strong policy analysis techniques.
Education/Training: Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
Preferred Qualifications Master's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training.

Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience.
The budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is $78,000.

This position is exempt and paid monthly.
This is a hybrid position, eligible for up to 40% remote capability.
