Bus Driver

Job Summary:
Under the supervision of the Transportation Coordinator the Bus Driver will be responsible for transporting physically limited AgeWell PACE (AWP) participants to and from appointments and other destinations.
The driver will provide safe, timely, and courteous transportation while providing quality service, and requires constant interaction with family members, caregivers and community agencies.
Among other duties including help with fleet maintenance coordination.
Qualifications & Education: ▪ Must hold a valid and applicable Class-B or C CDL with Passenger Endorsement and have a clean driving record with no moving violations in the last two years ▪ 1 year of experience working with the frail elderly populations ▪ High ‘school Diploma or GED ▪ Must be able to work effectively in a team environment and operate handicap accessible vehicle.
Meet a standardized set of competencies for the specific position description established by AWP and approved by Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services.
▪ Must have experience working with a diverse ethnic background Position Responsibilities: ▪ Drives bus/vehicle to designated locations to deliver limited persons to varied destinations ▪ Assists participants in and out of the bus/vehicle in a safe and courteous manner ▪ Secure passengers’ wheelchairs, walkers, and other equipment to restraining devices to stabilize equipment during trip and manage medical equipment and emergencies that may arise ▪ Inspects, cleans, and sanitizes bus/vehicle and maintains it in a clean, orderly, and safe condition.
Reports on the need for maintenance to Transportation Coordinator.
▪ Maintains paperwork and records in addition to maintaining the AWP buses/vehicle in good working condition to include monthly and pre-trip bus/vehicle inspections ▪ Ensure participant and bus/vehicle safety (bus maintenance, use of seatbelts, body mechanics, transfer training, and wheelchair safety) ▪ Communicates any changes in participant condition to Transportation Coordinator and other applicable staff as directed by Transportation Coordinator ▪ Effectively communicates with participants, families, caregivers, staff, and other agencies and their departments ▪ Follow established schedules, adjust schedules to meet unanticipated changes, determine the safest and most efficient pick-up and delivery routes ▪ Other duties as assigned by Transportation Coordinator Possess the Ability to: ▪ Maintain a positive, flexible, and solution-focused attitude, with both the ability to collaborate effectively in a team setting and to work independently ▪ Communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with individuals from varying cultural backgrounds ▪ Effectively utilize computer and software tools ▪ Only act within the scope of their authority to practice ▪ Work in a dynamic and fast-changing environment ▪ Work within an effective team environment, where each team member is held accountable for their independent work ▪ Approach the role with an openness to new ideas, cultural humility, and acknowledgment of the dynamics of privilege ▪ Reinforce strategic DEI initiatives set by the AWP Leadership and Board of Directors and assist in building a culture that models inclusive behaviors, proactively manages bias, and provides opportunities for strengthening DEI acumen through development and training ▪ Meet a standardized set of competencies for the specific position description established by AWP and approved by regulatory agencies before working independently ▪ Be medically cleared for communicable diseases and have all immunizations up to date before engaging in direct participant contact ▪ Pass a criminal background which will verify that the candidate is: not excluded from participation in Medicare and Medicaid programs; has not been convicted of criminal offenses related to their involvement in Medicaid, Medicare, other health insurance or health care programs, or social services programs under title XX of the Act; and have not been convicted of physical, sexual, drug or alcohol abuse Knowledge of: ▪ Physical, mental, and social needs of geriatric older adults ▪ Principles and practices of health care, health care systems, and managed care ▪ Culture and needs of the socially and ethnically diverse population AWP serves ▪ Team and value-based care ▪ Regulatory policies, rules, and regulations including HIPPA (can be taught) ▪ Familiarity and/or experience with geriatrics ▪ A great level of compassion towards the geriatric population Physical Demands & Work Environment: The physical demands and work environment characteristics described here are representative of those that must be met by a team member to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
