Summary/Objective:
The Dispatcher will be responsible for scheduling and dispatching drivers effectively and efficient, for assignment of materials, freight, equipment, to deliver exceptional customer service.
The Dispatcher duties include using radio, telephone, or computer to transmit assignments, while coordinating daily operations, compiling daily transportation schedules, and ensuring assigned truck profitability goals are met.
Work Schedule:
Monday through Friday.
As needed during special projects and TAR / shutdown season.
Will be required to participate in two (2) FCC shutdowns per year.
Responsibilities:
The Dispatcher is responsible for coordinating and scheduling drivers, internal and third-party, to pick up or drop off to vendors and/or customers.
Determine the best method of delivery and cost efficiency.
Develop delivery routes and remain in contact with drivers throughout the day.
Negotiate third-party shipping rates to get the most cost-effective solution, while meeting the needs of the customer.
Always complete the appropriate documentation and reports in thorough and timely manner.
Keep supervisor informed of needs and problems, maintain cleanliness of immediate work area and report maintenance needs.
Ensure that all deliveries are made on time.
Be courteous and tactful with fellow employees.
Communicate with customers regarding delivery schedules and ensure that any necessary heads up or concerns are given to them.
Stay abreast of traffic and road conditions, correcting/adjusting routes as needed.
Work with outside carriers and owner operators.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
High School Diploma or equivalent.
Two (2) years of Dispatching experience.
Must possess Class A CDL.
Must possess TWIC card or be capable of obtaining one.
Ability to work under pressure, with tight deadlines, and changing priorities.
Excellent communications skills (verbal and written).
Display the ability to accurately use basic math skills.
Ability to multi-task.
Geographical knowledge of service area or map reading skills.
Computer skills.
Knowledge of industry is recommended but not required.
Physical Requirements:
Requires repetitive motion, hearing, talking, grasping, fingering, sitting, bend, stoop, and reach.
Must be able to lift, carry and/or hold up to 75 lbs.
