JOB ANNOUNCEMENT The Community Youth Center of San Francisco (CYC) provides education, leadership development, behavioral health, intervention, street outreach, and workforce development services to San Francisco youth and their families.

Position: Program Assistant (Elementary Summer) Salary: $21.
00 - $24.
00 per hour Reports to: Site Coordinator Status: Temporary Part-Time, Non-Exempt School Year: 5/16/24 - 6/4/24 (up to 25 hours/ week) Temporary Full-Time, Non-Exempt Summer: 6/5/24 - 7/24/24 (Position ends on 7/24/24) POSITION DESCRIPTION: Under the supervision of the Site Coordinator, the Program Assistant will work as a team to build a positive and supportive environment for elementary school aged children.
The Program Assistant will provide support to the After School Program/Summer Program at one of our elementary school sites.
They will support and serve as a floater to support Site Coordinator and or program leads.
Our focus is on supporting youth in their academic, social, and emotional development.
We will also seek leaders who will be able to guide elementary school-aged children in literacy, math, STEAM and other age-appropriate recreation and enrichment activities.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Support with the supervision and management of approximately 10-20 Transitional Kindergarten - fifth grade students.
Support program leads with their daily academic and enrichment lessons.
Support program leads with the organization and preparation of their enrichment curriculum activities for TK-5th grade students.
Develop and encourage consistent study habits/routines.
Provide a relationship as a positive mentor/ role model to elementary school-aged children in conjunction with program/agency goals.
Create ongoing communication with site staff and parents.
Support and build relationships with both parents/ guardians and program participants.
Support in creating a positive and safe environment for all program participants.
Provide supervision during indoor and outdoor activities.
Assist in the supervision of volunteers and high school staff during program hours.
Set up, organize, and clean up meal time for students.
Organize supplies for program leaders and office shared spaces.
Support with the supervision of students during field trips.
Supervise and clean up sports equipment during recess.
Supervise and facilitate small groups during enrichment and academic times.
Other duties assigned by management.
QUALIFICATIONS: One full year of college preferred or some youth experience required.
Passion to work with young people ages 5 and up from diverse backgrounds.
Have a sense of humor, creativity, and patience.
Knowledge of youth development practices and one or more years of experience planning and facilitating enrichment curriculum activities for youth.
Experience in classroom management, conflict mediation, and restorative practices is a plus.
Experience working with diverse youth and families is a plus.
Ability to develop, implement, and organize programs and special events.
Possess good organizational, communication, and teamwork skills.
Ability to model to staff and participants: professionalism, personal responsibility, a strong work ethic, and positive character.
Bilingual/bicultural in Arabic, Cantonese/Mandarin, Spanish, or Vietnamese is preferred.
For summer: Must be able to work from Monday thru Friday from either 8:00 am -4:30 pm or 9:30 am - 6:00 pm; for school year: must be available to work after school hours from Monday to Friday from 1:00 pm - 6:00 pm Able to lift or move at least 25lbs.
Commitment to taking regular Covid-19 health tests as required by program health and safety guidelines and/or current health directives.
