POSITION SUMMARY Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, the Staff Accountant II is a key member of the fiscal team managing a portion of government contracts and providing general accounting support.
This role computes and prepares data for journal entries, general ledger, and related financial statements and performs day-to-day general accounting functions.
RESPONSIBILITIES: Prepares general ledger journal entries, fixed asset tracking, monthly balance sheet reconciliation, and bank reconciliation.
Generates and files monthly financial reports and business correspondence.
Develops, analyzes, and prepares periodic financial statements for timely distribution to management.
Assists with accounts payable functions including but not limited to verifying invoices, expense reports, check requests, and purchase requisitions; entering data into the accounts payable system; and processing weekly check runs.
Assists with accounts receivable functions including but not limited to applying payments to appropriate accounts, monthly invoicing, reconciling customer accounts, and handling customer inquiries.
Reconciles petty cash fund and assists with budget preparation.
Prepares and analyzes monthly journals monthly tax returns.
Performs daily banking procedures and prepares account analyses and reconciliation.
Maintains fixed asset and related depreciation schedules.
Assists with annual external audits.
Coordinates implementation of accounting systems and accounting control procedures.
Reviews and analyzes the organization's accounting operation; recommends improvements.
Assists with related special projects and performs other duties as assigned.
WHAT YOU WILL BRING A successful candidate will possess: Bachelor’s degree (advanced coursework a plus) in a quantitative discipline (concentration in Business, Accounting, Finance, Economics, or related field).
Minimum of 5 years experience in nonprofit management, organizing and/or advocacy work, fundraising or stewardship, coalition projects or philanthropy programs relating to education, workforce development, and community partnerships desired.
Broad and deep understanding of government contracts, grants and reporting, as well as standard communication protocol with funding entities, and related parameters that typically appear in contracts, such as contract structures, program structures, program timelines and payments, insurance, and myriad of other related details.
Demonstrated competency with using ADP, QuickBooks, Microsoft Office Suite, Google platform, Zoom and aptitude to quickly learn industry- or project-specific software.
Experience in high-touch customer service-oriented communication, fiscal management planning, implementation, and reporting with diverse non-profit organizations/stakeholders from diverse cultures.
Evidence of strong culturally competent verbal and written communication, analytical, and organizational skills.
Experience and ease developing relationships and skillfully working with a diverse community of colleagues, partners, clients, and constituents.
Track record of successful task prioritization and execution with exceptional time management and organizational skills and ability to self-manage and follow through to reliably meet multiple, concurrent deadlines.
Demonstrated ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, and percentages.
Ability to work independently and as a member of various teams and committees.
Versatility, flexibility, and a willingness to work within constantly changing priorities with enthusiasm.
Tact, professionalism, diplomacy, a sense of humor; ability to handle sensitive matters with discretion.
