Job Title: Senior Grants Financial Analyst Department: Finance Location: Oakland, CA preferred or remote.

Scope: The Senior Grants Financial Analyst is responsible for providing financial analysis and financial reporting support for Energy campaigns.
Assists and coordinates the budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting and processing of restricted grants within Energy including several other departments and chapters.
Prepares and maintains fundraising and operating budgets and monthly and quarterly forecasts including planned but unannounced staffing changes to grant funded programs throughout the year.
Documents and reviews current business processes and recommends enhancements and efficiencies.
Conducts special projects and resolves complex operating and financial issues.
Job activities include but are not limited to: Prepares Energy Campaigns fundraising budgets, financial reports and participates in the preparation of other fundraising documents such as campaign business plans for foundations and major donors in collaboration with the campaign director, chapter directors, grant-writing staff and grants management team.
Assists in the preparation of annual campaign operating budgets and updated monthly forecasts to conduct monthly budget reviews with the campaign team in collaboration with the Director of Financial Performance, Energy Campaigns, departmental capacities, and regional field staff.
Monitors monthly project expenses and activities for compliance with donor intent and budget guidelines.
Prepares monthly and ad-hoc reports on campaign expenses, including staff time and revenue projections.
Compares actual results to budget and, working with campaign managers and Director of Financial Performance, Energy Campaigns, provides labor and expense analysis, cash flow projections and detailed forecasts, including staff reductions that may be required for programs with insufficient funding.
Identifies cash flow issues and grant spending issues for Advancement staff.
Collaborates with Advancement and Campaigns staff to review revenue projections, resolve discrepancies, and update operating budgets.
Performs project expenditure reconciliations and related correcting journal entries.
Maintains and updates campaign-specific activity codes in Sierra Club systems and maintains all required documentation for audit purposes.
Works with campaign managers and Advancement staff to continuously evaluate budgeting and reporting processes to make improvements with regards to efficiency and relevance of data.
Responds to inquiries from campaign and regional field staff regarding fund balances, project expenditures, and other pertinent issues.
Participates in confidential meetings and discussions to determine staffing levels and staffing plans.
Prepares confidential reports regarding availability of program funds, and analyzes proposed changes to staffing levels.
Acts as a financial resource to managers and staff throughout the organization, including providing financial reports.
Works closely with the Director of Financial Performance to manage the financial reporting processes related to the organization’s grant revenue to meet all financial reporting requirements and guidelines of The Sierra Club, The Sierra Club Foundation, regulatory agencies and donors.
Updates and recommends improvements to Sierra Club systems including grants management system, budget system, and campaign budget models Performs special projects and ad-hoc reports and miscellaneous duties as directed.
The successful candidate must have the following skills and experience: 3-5 years of Financial Analysis/ FP&A experience with exposure to budgeting and forecasting, cost/benefit analysis, and financial systems, preferably in a 501c(3) or government fund accounting environment Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Strong organizational skills and ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, deadline driven environment.
Has comfort with some ambiguity.
Able to work independently and collaboratively, manage multiple assignments, to meet deadlines.
Moderate to Advanced proficiency with Excel spreadsheets and PowerPoint, ability to create financial models, visual personations.

The strongest candidates will also demonstrate the following experience, skills and competencies: Proficiency with financial applications (Workday, Netsuite, Adaptive, Salesforce) as well as google suite applications.
Good working knowledge of IRS and tax regulations related to 501c(3) and 501c(4) funds administration and reporting and accounting procedures for grants administration.
An Effective Collaborator and Excellent Communication skills: You’ve successfully worked across cultural lines on a dispersed team.
You have brought together stakeholders from various roles, departments, and levels of seniority to achieve a common goal.
You have a proven ability to oversee complex projects across a matrix-managed organization.
Compensation and Benefits The salary range for this position is $95,550, non-negotiable.
