We are seeking a contractor who has a demonstrated track record of preparing taxes and/or management of tax preparer staff.
Contractor should feel comfortable working in an environment that is performance and goal driven.
Contractors who are flexible, able to multi-task, take initiative, demonstrate critical thinking skills, detail oriented and a team player are highly encouraged to apply.
This position will report to the Employment Programs Director who oversees the Employment Services, including financial services and tax preparations.
One Treasure Island hosts The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program (VITA) which is a *FREE *Tax Preparation services provided by United Way Bay Area (UWBA) whose goal is to provide tax assistance to all low- and moderate-income people and families.
One Treasure Island has a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with UWBA to provide such services to the Treasure Island Community and the community at large.
*Key Responsibilities:*
*Before Tax Season*
· Sign grant agreement from United Way Bay Area
· Attend monthly site coordinator meetings/conference calls and the Regional Site Coordinator Conference for the tax season.
· Attend the New Site Coordinator Training and Tax Slayer Administrator Training.
· Recruit volunteers for tax site.
Seek support from UWBA for volunteers if necessary
· Do regular community and social media outreach advertising your tax site.
· Submit all required documents to IRS:
i.
Form 13533 – Sponsorship Agreement
ii.
Form 13715 – Volunteer Site Information Sheet
· Order your tax site materials via UWBA
· Attend all tax law trainings and pass the online advance exam with a passing score of at least 80%
· Must complete the Site Coordinator and Intake/Greeter Test
· Add your site date and hours on the UWBA site.
This will be provided to you by a UWBA Program Manager.
*During Tax Season*
· Prepare tax returns for the tax year (Jan 15th– April 15th)
· Manage tax site volunteers
· Participate in the monthly meetings and conference calls
· Sign all volunteers Forms 13616 – and verify and retain all volunteer documents onsite.
· Submit Form 13206- Volunteer Summary Report to your Spec Relationship Manager at the start of your tax season.
· Participate in the Save Your Refund Savings Promotion hosted by Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB)
*After Tax Season*
· Follow all IRS required procedures for closing the Tax Site
· Submit Final Report to UWBA by due date which is usually the first week in May.
· Thank you lunch for volunteers.
*Qualifications and Experience:*
* Certified public accountant, enrolled agents, tax attorneys, and non-credentialed preparers
*3+ years of experience preparing tax and/or management of a tax site*
* Experience engaging low income and diverse communities and working with the public
* Excellent speaking and written communication skills.
* Computer proficiency is required.
* Flexibility to work some evenings and weekends as needed.
* Bilingual English-Spanish proficiency a plus.
