Position Summary: The Staff Accountant is a key member of the accounting team, responsible for maintaining financial records and ensuring accuracy in financial reporting.
The ideal candidate has a genuine interest in the wine industry with a focus on developing the financial and analytical skills necessary to help run a successful winery.
Willingness to learn, a desire for growth and development, and a good attitude are essential.
Reporting to the Accounting Manager, this role entails typical accounting tasks (see Essential Functions) in addition to assisting the Chief Financial Officer, Controller, and Accounting Manager with ad hoc analysis and tasks as required.
The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in accounting principles, experience in the wine industry (preferred), and proficiency with modern ERP/accounting systems.
Essential Functions: • General Ledger & Financial Reporting: Maintain accurate and complete financial records, prepare journal entries, and assist in month-end and year-end closing processes.
• Account Reconciliations: Perform bank and account reconciliations to ensure accuracy of financial statements.
• Financial Analysis & Support: Assist in variance analysis to support business decisions.
• Tax: Assist with preparation and filing of taxes (e.
g.
California sales and usage taxes).
• Compliance & Auditing: Ensure compliance with accounting standards and assist in internal and external audits.
• ERP System Proficiency: Utilize ERP/accounting software for data entry and report generation, ensuring data integrity and accuracy.
Education, Experience, Certificates, Licenses: • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or related field required.
• Proficiency with Excel required.
• 1-2 years of accounting experience preferred but not required.
• CPA (qualified or still in process) desired but not required.
• Wine industry experience desired but not required.
• Proficiency with Business Central (or similar ERP’s) preferred.
• Excellent communication and organizational skills.
Physical Requirements: • Primarily office-based with sedentary work; may require occasional lifting of up to 20 lbs.
• Must have the manual dexterity to operate a computer and other office equipment.
Work Environment: • Office setting with typical office noise levels.
• Hybrid work schedule, with a minimum of 3 days in the office per week.
Schedule and Travel Requirements: • Primarily a set weekday schedule but may require seasonal overtime.
• Position does not require overnight travel.
