Job Description:
Maybeck High School, a small, independent, teacher-run, college-preparatory high school in Berkeley, seeks a full-time Business Manager for the 2024-2025 academic year.
The Business Manager plays a key role in the Maybeck community and assists the School Director with managing the finances of the school.
Responsibilities include:
-Prepare and manage annual budget, including setting financial goals each fiscal year, reviewing the budget with the Finance Committee and the Board of Directors.
-Work with outside accountant to prepare annual review and tax forms, including Property Tax statements, 1099 forms for subcontractors, etc.
-Ensure compliance with local business requirements, including filing annual business license.
-Prepare financial reports as needed, including profit & loss statements and balance sheet statements for presentation to Board of Directors.
-Coordinate all financial aid activities, including managing Clarity website, facilitating the application process, gathering documentation from families, making aid recommendations to the Finance Committee, and sending Award letters to families.
-Manage billing, including annual tuition fees, special programs, and other charges to families.
Regularly communicate with families including providing timely answers to questions and following up with unpaid accounts.
-Manage Accounts Payable/Receivable, including payments, bank deposits, vendor invoices, credit card charges, and monthly bank and credit card statements.
-Renew annual insurance policies, including business liability and workers’ compensation.
Perform audits and acquire Certificates of Insurance as needed.
-Prepare and process annual employee contracts and hiring and termination paperwork.
-Facilitate open enrollment for employees and review and track employee benefits (health, dental, vision, FSA, etc.
) Assist employees with leave (bereavement, sick, maternity/paternity, etc.
)
-Process wage and benefit information requests from state and local agencies.
-Track inventory of textbooks, equipment, and furniture and submit annual Business Property filing.
Qualifications:
-A bachelor's degree
-Relevant experience in accounting or financial management including reporting, budgeting, and auditing.
Proficiency with Quickbooks.
-Knowledge of regulations and accounting standards.
-Clear and transparent communicator, able to present complex information to small and large groups clearly and concisely.
-Ability to collaborate on teams and a desire to participate in a teacher-led school.
-A commitment to ongoing professional development.

Position Details:
-All staff members at Maybeck High School are compensated according to a step scale based on years of experience and degrees earned.
The scale ranges from $77,562 for staff with no prior relevant experience to $120,759 for staff with 30 years of prior experience.
-Full-time positions (80% or higher) includes medical and dental benefits, life insurance and employer contribution to a retirement account.
-Administrative staff have generous vacation in the summer and flexible hours during school breaks throughout the year.
