*Position Title:* Senior Bookkeeper *Reports To:* Executive Director *Status: * Part-time, Exempt (20 hours per week) *Schedule:* M, T, F.
*Salary:* $40,000 to $45,000 (DOE) *ABOUT HOMIES ORGANIZING THE MISSION TO EMPOWER YOUTH (HOMEY):* HOMEY is a community-based grassroots organization that has been serving low-income Latino youth aged 13 to 24 in San Francisco for more than 20 years.
Its mission is to transform lives by providing pathways to education, self-sufficiency, and well-being through cultural empowerment and direct services that focus on physical, mental, and emotional health.
The organization is deeply rooted in the Mission District and is driven by former gang members and young leaders from the community who want to establish more effective methods of preventing youth violence and self-destruction.
Since its inception in 1999, HOMEY youth have created publications, implemented educational programs, and hosted numerous events and resource fairs promoting health and well-being to their peers.
Current programming includes: * Guerrer@s De La Ciudad Food Program * Kali Housing Program (ERAP) * Kalpulli Youth Leadership Program * CALLES Case Management Program * HOMEY Street Vendor Program * HOMEY Health Program * Native Graphix *POSITION SUMMARY:* The Senior Bookkkeeper is responsible for maintaining the financial records of HOMEY.
This includes managing accounts payable and receivable, reconciling bank statements, and preparing financial reports.
The role demands a high level of accuracy, attention to detail, and a strong understanding of accounting principles and nonprofit regulations.
*DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:* * Maintain and operate a complete and systematic set of general books, including subsidiary ledgers, in accordance with a prescribed system of accounts.
* Code invoices, set up new accounts, reconcile accounts, and close the monthly books.
* Prepare vouchers of receipts and disbursements for entry in ledgers.
* Post entries and prove balances on various ledgers.
* Prepare budgets and maintain controls on budget accounts * Perform payroll duties in a timely manner every pay cycle, including error checking and payment processing through Rippling.
* Reconcile bank statements monthly and resolve any discrepancies.
* Reconcile cash disbursement accounts, payroll, customer accounts, and other financial accounts.
* Manage accounts receivable collections.
* Verify and complete payment of invoices associated with accounts payable and ensure payments are charged to the appropriate accounts.
* Provide support during audits by preparing necessary documentation and answering auditors’ queries.
* Provide exceptional customer service to agencies regarding billing inquiries.
* Provide administrative and clerical support such as record keeping and budgeting to various departments on an as-needed basis.
* Work directly with management to facilitate and manage grant proposals, purchase orders, and legal and governmental paperwork.
* Maintain financial security by regulating all outgoing cash flow as needed, including petty cash funding withdrawals, payment of supplier invoices and customer refunds.
* Manage the purchasing and invoicing system.
* Assist in budget preparation and financial forecasting.
* Maintain knowledge of acceptable accounting practices and procedures.
* Perform general cost accounting and other related duties for the organization.
*MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:* * High school diploma equivalency or Associate's degree preferred in finance or accounting, or equivalent business experience and 5+ years of progressively responsible experience in bookkeeping.
* Minimum of 2 years working for a non-profit organization and/or business.
* Strong communication skills are essential, particularly regarding presenting the results of budget analyses to management.
* Should have an outstanding knowledge of QuickBooks, Excel, and electronic spreadsheets.
* Ability to work independently, as well as part of a team.
* Great attention to detail.
* Ability to analyze reports from outside systems and reconcile the relevant data to accounting records.
* Must be accurate and able to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
* Be able to work in a hybrid capacity from home and on-site (this is not a remote position and requires at least 3 days on-site).
* Demonstrate the ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which includes the willingness to try and understand and be open-minded about differing opinions and views.
* Knowledge of the City and County of San Francisco accounting practices is a plus, but not required, specifically the Department of Children, Youth, and Their Families (DCYF), the Mayor’s Office of Housing and Community Development, and/or other local governmental departments.
* Ability to function autonomously within an organization but can work collaboratively within a team; * Demonstrate strong project management, problem-solving, and analytical skills; * Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software as required to complete and maintain records.
