Director, Financial Planning & Analysis Finance Department Status: Full Time FLSA Status: Exempt Location of Job: Davies Symphony Hall San Francisco, CA Salary: $163,000 - $186,000 Schedule: Hybrid Regular Hours: 9 am-5 pm Reports To: Chief Financial Officer Supervisory: Yes 1 direct report JOB SUMMARY The Director, Financial Planning & Analysis plays the lead role in the financial management and budget oversight of the organization, working closely with the CFO.
S/he creates and maintains critical tools and analyses that support both departmental and organizational decision making and serves as a strategic thought partner to the CFO and senior management.
S/he is responsible for creating and executing the organization’s annual budget and quarterly forecasts, as well as reporting monthly performance versus actual.
S/he ensures data integrity throughout a myriad of internal and external reporting; and participates with various internal/external stakeholders on various organization-wide initiatives.
Informing his/her work is a strong understanding of the organization’s strategic vision as well as its financial, operational and risk dynamics.
S/he oversees a staff of one Financial Analyst and interacts with a variety of internal stakeholders.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES Annual Budget, Quarterly Forecasts, and Reporting Lead the organization-wide annual budget effort including planning, coordinating, and developing an organization-wide budget.
Work with department leaders to ensure a transparent and participatory process.
Align deliverables and adhere to deadlines with the final goal of the CFO presenting at the annual Board of Governors Meeting.
Focus on continuous improvement in robust budget and forecasting process with a focus on transparency, flexibility, scenario planning, and ease of use for budget managers.
Coordinate and create at least three quarterly forecasts as updates to the annual budget.
Work with department leaders to ensure a transparent and participatory process.
Partners with the CFO to develop and prepare concise, relevant and insightful financial reporting for the Leadership Team, Finance Committee, and Board of Governors.
Develop and implement a multi-year forecast for buy in from Leadership Team and Board of Governors.
Establish policies, procedures and direction for continuous improvement of financial operations, including increased use of technology.
Budget Analytical Software Oversee and administer financial analytical software tool for budgeting, forecasting, and analysis.
Focus on understanding and driving financial planning best practices.
Drive and improve utilization of financial tools across the organization.
Business Intelligence Develop and maintain a Business Intelligence task force, including working with various SFS departments to establish priorities and manage expectations with regards to the collection, review and deployment of data.
This data is crucial to decision-making and trend analysis to aid in allocation of resources and short- and long-range planning.
Develop relevant dashboards and key performance indicators (KPI) for management and board reporting.
Other Support Provide financial and decision-making support to management in analyzing new initiatives and performance alternatives, as well as robust analyses on existing revenue streams and related operation support costs.
Work with Development Department to ensure appropriate and accurate representation of performance data in all external-facing documents.
Support CFO or his/her designee in the analysis, interpretation, and monitoring of financial requirements for finance, analysis for labor negotiations, participating in ad hoc projects as needed.
Prepare and interpret cash flow and endowment projections for use in executive decision making and organizational management.
Interact and communicate with Board members to provide accurate, timely, and clear information is available.
Conduct job functions and activities in alignment with the principles of the SFS’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) work, and support the organization’s DEI work through participation in working groups and other initiatives as possible.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Bachelor's degree in or finance, accounting, or business required (MBA or CPA a plus) 10+ years of finance experience with increasing level of responsibility, including minimum of 3 years’ experience managing/directing a financial planning and analysis (FPA&) team and 3 years’ experience in building and maintaining organization-wide budgets and forecasts.
Mix of public, private, and nonprofit experience ideal.
Proficient in the use of technology with experience overseeing financial software and managing relationships with software vendors.
Advanced knowledge of budget analytical software tools.
Working knowledge of accounting general ledger software such as Sage Intacct.
Expert level proficiency with Microsoft Excel and its modelling features.
Proficiency with other Microsoft Office Suite products and database programs.
Reacts well under pressure; treats others with respect and consideration.
Strong organizational skills, with ability to work independently and manage highly detailed tasks.
Ability to handle multiple tasks and priorities, and meet deadlines in a high-volume, fast-paced environment.
