Location: San Francisco, CA Category: Staff Positions Posted On: Fri Nov 3 2023 Job Description: POSITION SUMMARY The Staff Accountant II role will be responsible for a variety of accounting transactions in support of the CIIS Accounting & Control department, and Finance and Administration Division.
The Accounting team's primary responsibility is to control and maintain accuracy, continuity, sustainability, and contingency financial objectives and strategic planning of CIIS, in a timely and anticipated manner.
The accounting and control team works trusted collaboration to support each other in a variety of department duties and responsibilities; thus, this position is cross trained in each accounting position.
The Staff Accountant II position maintains financial records and ensures that financial transactions are properly recorded.
Ensures the accuracy of entries to ledger accounts and reconciles subsidiary ledger accounts to the general ledger.
Prepares balance sheets, profit and loss statements and other financial reports.
Analyzes current costs, revenues, financial commitments, and obligations incurred to predict future revenues and expenses.
This position supports the financial processes of all University departments and functions, and assists in a variety of processing, relationship management, audit, and reconciliation of general ledger, bank, benefit accounts, liabilities and other processes or accounts.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Performs daily general accrual accounting, reconciliations, and other related duties.
Manages fund accounting related to scholarships, grants and related contracts.
Ensures compliance with terms and reporting expectations.
Monitor grant expenditures and revenue.
Reconciles various accounts, including bank accounts, investment accounts, accounts receivable, Investigates and resolve discrepancies.
Manages recurring payments and department cost allocations.
Prepares for and supports annual financial audits and the 990 audit by preparing schedules and PBC requests, as well as other accreditation or SRO audit requests.
Performs monthly balance sheet account reconciliations.
Regularly documents, reviews, recommends, and updates accounting policies and procedures as approved by CFO and Controller to provide organizational and departmental optimization, timeliness, and accuracy of procedures, processing, and control.
Maintains astute knowledge of acceptable accounting practices and procedures.
Keeps a working knowledge of various statutory compliance and tax forms with federal, multi-state, and/or local government agencies especially as it relates to operating nonprofit business, higher-education institutions, and employment.
Collaborates with other team members by providing hands-on assistance, guidance, or by covering duties of another team member as needed or required.
Demonstrates a positive customer service-oriented interaction with vendors, staff, faculty, and students.
Performs other duties as assigned.
PM22 Job Requirements: MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Required Skills/Abilities: Excellent verbal and written English communication skills.
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
Understanding of Grant accounting and transactions related to grants and contracts required.
Marked knowledge of general financial accounting and accrual accounting.
Proven experience with revenue recognition ASC606 required.
Proven experience with Endowment and Investment Accounting required.
Holds a command of and the ability to adhere to generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
Proficient with Accounting General Ledger software, Microsoft Office Suite or similar software.
Highly proficient in Excel and able to perform financial analysis.
Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
Highly effective time management, proactive and the ability to handle multiple tasks and meet or improve upon deadlines.
Enjoys a proactive, collaborative team environment.
Education and Experience: Bachelor's degree in accounting, or finance.
At least three years of non-profit accounting or experience required.
Ability to learn enterprise database systems quickly.
Experience with Ellucian Colleague highly desirable.
Ability to work independently and in collaboration with other department members and CIIS departments.
Must be detail oriented and highly organized with time and data.
Working to advance toward Accounting Master's Degree, CPA license or additional accounting certification, preferred.
ENVIRONMENTAL DEMANDS Occasional work performed alone with ability to work remotely from time-to-time.
Collaboration and constant work around and with other people.
PHYSICAL ABILITIES This position requires attention to detail, good memory, ability to work under deadline pressure, sitting for prolonged periods at a desk and working on a computer.
Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
Additional Information: WAGES AND BENEFITS Salary Range (commensurate with skills and experience): $75,000 to $87,000.

NOTES TO CANDIDATE Working Conditions - Duties are primarily performed in an office environment at a desk or computer terminal, typically Monday through Friday.
