Job Summary
Kehilla Community Synagogue seeks a motivated and committed individual with at least three years of
accounting experience and good communication skills to be the cornerstone of our financial stewardship.

After an initial transition and training period, the Staff Accountant will be responsible for the financial
transactions, and ensuring the accuracy and timeliness of monthly close and financial reporting, payroll
processing and benefits administration.
This role requires not only the execution of payroll, HR, and
benefits administration tasks but also the proactive identification and implementation of process
improvements.
The ideal candidate will regularly review current procedures to streamline operations.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Accounting
● Revenue Management - oversee the processing of all incoming funds, including membership dues,
school tuition, facilities rental fees, events and donations through credit card transactions and check
deposits.
Ensure accuracy and timeliness to maintain the financial health of the organization.
● Accounts Payable Management, record invoices and maintain effective communications with
outside vendors, ensure all vendor profiles are accurately managed from W-9 documentation to
payment histories; Sync and reconcile data from bill pay platform to QuickBooks Online; Preparing
and filing year end 1099s.
● Manage the recording of credit card transactions to QuickBooks Online, which includes securing
transaction categorizations and receipts.
● Sync data between ShulCloud and QuickBooks Online; Reconcile revenue, bank deposits, and
Accounts Receivable between ShulCloud and QuickBooks Online.
Investigate and resolve any
discrepancies.
● Perform monthly bank reconciliation, including operating cash accounts, credit card accounts, and
investment accounts.
● Post monthly, quarterly and fiscal year-end close journal entries.
● Prepare financial reports for Executive Director (monthly) and Board (quarterly).
● Prepare documentation and compile reports for the annual financial review.
● Record bank auto-pay payments, bank charges, and interest income.
● Record mortgage payments and semi-monthly payroll journal entries.
● Manage the restricted fund balance by tracking restricted funds revenue, expenditure, investment
gain/loss on a quarterly basis.
Payroll, HR and Benefits Administration
● Payroll processing, process semi-monthly payroll in PayEntry, including the management of
timesheets, payroll deductions, and 403b contributions.
● Ensure timely payroll tax filing and payments.
● On-board new hires, including payroll and benefits set-up, respond to EDD unemployment notices,
offboard employees including termination from payroll and benefits
Process Improvement
● Regularly review current procedures to optimize efficiency, accuracy, and leveraging technology and
best practices to streamline operations.
ESSENTIAL EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS
● At least three years of accounting experience with QuickBooks Online, including specifically
accounting for temporarily restricted funding
● Ability to learn ShulCloud, our synagogue specific database
● Payroll processing and benefits administration, using a payroll software program
● Competency with Google Docs and Sheets as well as Excel spreadsheets and Microsoft Word
● Ability to independently problem-solve when appropriate, and good judgment about when to
consult with the Executive Director
● Excellent time management skills
● Experience working with a staff team
● Superb customer service skills with members
● Undergraduate degree or comparable education or experience.
DESIRED EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS
● Experience with CRM databases
● Accounting degree or Quickbooks certification
● Non-profit experience
● Competency with Google office suite (Google Drive)
Other duties not listed here may be assigned by the Executive Director.
Physical Requirements
This position requires that one have the ability to comfortably use a keyboard and mouse.
Must be able to
sit in a room with compact fluorescent or LED lighting.
Compensation
Annual Salary: $70,000-$77,500 DOE.
Generous benefits package includes health and dental insurance,
vacation, holidays and retirement/403(b).
