Job Summary Reporting to and under general supervision of the Human Resources Manager, with additional lead work direction from the Managing Director for Payroll and Benefits, the Human Resources management team and other lead Payroll staff, the Payroll Technician is responsible for applying thorough knowledge of payroll and personnel transactions and performs the full range of moderately complex payroll and personnel transactions for all University employees.
The incumbent uses initiative and judgment to analyze information and determines a course of action within the specifications of standard practice and established guidelines; independently selects, interprets and applies the proper rules and regulations; and initiates, processes and completes a range of transactions in order to appoint, separate or change the pay and benefits status of various categories of University employees.
Key Qualifications This position requires the equivalent of two years’ payroll and personnel experience and any equivalent combination of education and experience, which provides the required knowledge and abilities to perform the duties of the position.
The incumbent must have thorough knowledge of general office methods, practices and procedures and thorough knowledge of, or the ability to quickly acquire, CSU policies, procedures, programs, guidelines, applicable state and federal laws, educational codes, and collective bargaining agreements.
Such policies, procedures, programs, and guidelines include, but is not limited to, the Uniform State Payroll Procedures Manual, Personnel Information Management System Manual and other payroll information found in state and university administrative manuals and guidelines, Public Employees’ Retirement System Manual and the Executive Orders published by the Chancellor’s Office.
Associates of arts degree preferred.
Intermediate proficiency with computers and Microsoft Office (word, Excel) required.
Knowledge of Google Suite and PeopleSoft preferred.
Salary and Benefits Starting salary placement depends on qualifications and experience and is anticipated to be in the range of $3,505 to $3,747 a month.
This is a full time, non-exempt position, which will lead toward permanent status following the successful completion of a probationary period.
This position is eligible for a broad range of benefits, including medical, dental, vision, life and disability insurances, retirement (CalPERS), tuition waiver, vacation and sick leave.
In addition, 14 paid holidays are offered each year; 13 scheduled on specific days and a Personal Holiday that may be taken any time during the year.
