The Role The Corporate Controller will have substantial responsibility for a full range of accounting activities as relates to RCD’s real estate development, portfolio management, and corporate operations.
Reporting to the CFO, the Corporate Controller is a senior position within the company, with substantial management, decision-making, and leadership responsibilities.
The Corporate Controller is supported by a team of tenured professionals, executive leadership, and a long-standing and amicable relationship with our tax and auditing firm.
The opening for the role comes as a natural extension of RCD’s growth and in combination with a scaling back in hours of current team leadership.
The ideal candidate will have an opportunity and the platform to chart their own path while being fully supported with institutional knowledge during their transition into the role.
Essential Responsibilities Leadership & Management As the most senior accounting staff member at RCD, lead the overall management and administration of RCD’s Accounting team, including: - Uphold the Accounting department’s standards of excellence - Managerial oversight of the Accounting department through direct and indirect management of accounting staff and contractors - Support continued professional development opportunities for staff, balance departmental staffing and workflow needs, identify staffing gaps, recruit for identified staffing vacancies - Participate as a member of RCD’s Management Team, which comprises senior leaders from all RCD departments - In partnership with RCD’s CFO and Systems and Technology team, support technology projects with a lens toward continual process improvements, including the migration and continued development of RCD’s financial accounting systems General Accounting Directly lead and/or manage the following general accounting responsibilities: - Oversight of the preparation and distribution of all external financial reporting for RCD and affiliate entities, including annual audited statements and interim financial statements - Oversight of the preparation of internal management reporting, including cash flow reports - Oversight responsibility for the timely preparation and filing of all RCD and affiliate entity tax returns - Support ongoing accounting and related operations via training and quality control in areas such as: A/P, A/R, treasury management, payroll, funding draws, cost certifications Other - Together with RCD’s Executive Director and CFO, serve as a Trustee for RCD’s retirement plan Requirements: Qualifications & Skill Set Qualified candidates should have at least 10 years of progressive work experience with a real estate developer, real estate portfolio management company, general contractor, or public accounting firm.
Ideal candidates will have substantial non-profit accounting experience with a specialization in affordable housing.
We’re looking for an emerging or seasoned leader with a ‘can-do’ attitude that strives for excellence, with an ability to alternately take the big picture view while rolling up their sleeves when appropriate.
The candidate should have demonstrated experience and/or abilities in the following areas: • Strong organizational skills and an ability to juggle, prioritize and delegate in a fast-paced environment • Strong interpersonal and management skills and an ability to effectively supervise high-capacity and highly qualified direct and indirect reports • Excellent interpersonal and business communication abilities, including clear and effective verbal and written communication skills • Advanced experience with lookup and reference functions in MS Excel • Experience with Sage Intacct and Salesforce is a big plus Work Environment RCD is currently practicing a hybrid work model.
Depending on your distance from our main office in Berkeley, you will be expected to work up to two days in the office.
Travel Requirements The responsibilities of this position will require occasional travel to off-site locations around the San Francisco Bay Area.
Physical Requirements While performing the job duties, the employee is regularly required to sit, speak and hear.
Requires frequent use of a keyboard, computer monitor, and phone.
Must be able to communicate clearly, both verbally and in writing.
Must be able to lift up to twenty (20) pounds occasionally.

The salary range for this position is $142,600 to $157,600.
Exactly where a prospective employee will be paid within this range will depend on, among other factors, the actual salary ranges for current and former employees who are either currently filling a similar role or did in the past; the candidate's depth of experience and qualifications; the level of specialization the role requires; budgetary considerations; the market demand for that role, and the local market conditions where the employee will be based.
For current RCD employees, tenure will also be a consideration.
